I've never broken a bone or given birth, but I have had some very painful periods that have made me feel like I'm going to pass out. Also terrible travel sickness / vomiting on a 20 hour trip that left me wishing for death due to how crap I felt.

Meningitis. Literally couldn't raise my head from the pillow. I've given birth twice and I would rather do that again.

Nat6999 · 03/10/2023 23:53

Did anyone else with a back to back labour feel like their bladder was being ripped out? Mine did, every contraction started & ended with my bladder feeling like someone was trying to grab hold & pull.

billybear · 03/10/2023 23:54

shoulder surgery/dry socket after having a tooth out/dental absess wanted my neighbour vet to put me down i was so ill.

As a kid I had an accident where I was dragged over tarmac and tore the skin off my back. I was pretty klutzy so I've also badly broken an ankle, sprained my coccyx and sliced the tops off both big toes (they grew back)! The pain of trapped air after abdominal surgery was pretty rough and radial arterial puncture was horrendous.

None of that comes close to the pain of nerve conduction studies though...the electric shocks weren't too bad but the needle, my god, even now 5 years later, thinking of the pain of that needle jammed into my muscles and being moved about, causes me to break out in a cold sweat. Never ever again.

Omg yes emg. The weirdest pain too. Like being shot at point blank range but with no injury.

Just been there this weekend. Now home from hospital after having gallbladder infection that was all stuck to my liver apparently.
Definitely on a par with the burst appendix of 20 years ago.
Seriously childbirth faces in comparison. Well not really but it felt like it this weekend.
Hospital experience was lovely btw, ambulance in just over a hour, a&e empty, few hours in majors for assessment with lovely morphine then organising the emergency op on Sunday morning. The only fly in the ointment was waiting for
3 hours for the pharmacy to deliver the meds before I could go home

Mine was stuck to my liver & I must have passed the stone as my bile duct was stretched out of shape, funnily enough the pain had stopped a couple of weeks before the op. Get your feet up & rest.

justasking111 · 03/10/2023 23:59

My first labour was high on pethidine, gas and air didn't realise it was a back to back birth. Second birth more painful because baby had his arm over his head, the third birth with no painkillers was a piece of cake by comparison.

Slicedwhite · 03/10/2023 23:59

Iritis. Thought I was dying

RandomButtons · 04/10/2023 00:06

Trapped wind after C-section, combined with c-section pain. 100 times more painful than natural birth. I thought I was going to die. Took me two days to realise trapped wind was half the problem.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 04/10/2023 00:08

Wisdom tooth infection

miscarriage

SecondClassReturnToDottinghamPlease · 04/10/2023 00:08

Quinsy. I walked into a staff room once where this guy said "It was the worst pain I've ever felt". I didn't hear the start of the conversation so just said "Quinsy?" He nodded.

Nat6999 · 04/10/2023 00:09

My first poo 6 days after having ds, my mum had to stand rubbing my back while I cried, it was nearly as bad as the induced labour, I understand now about the ring of fire when the head is crowning. I nearly rang the hospital to ask if I could have another C section to deliver the bowling ball of poo.

Catpuss66 · 04/10/2023 00:11

Kidney stones passing them, piriformis syndrome x2 like 10 times worse than sciatica turns out I had a fractured pelvis as well

Grimsknee · 04/10/2023 00:11

Childbirth with the baby stuck and positioned face forward, so that her spine was grinding against mine. Merciful science with its c sections and anaesthesia saved my sanity and possibly both our lives.

KenAdams · 04/10/2023 00:11

BP headache - BP went to over 200 and I messaged my husband to say Id be dead before he got home. The sense of doom was the worst thing.

Miscarriage. Felt worse than labour because it felt like my body was desperately trying to hang onto baby. I asked for gas and air and the nurses laughed at me and said no, you're not in labour.

Period pain - stage 4 endo. It's like having labour contractions but having to go about your normal day.

Whatwereyouthinking · 04/10/2023 00:12

Worst by far was the LLETZ treatment where the burnt off the pre cancerous cells on my cervix - so so painful

C-section recovery next (but I think because the hospital was crap at giving pain relief) and then natural birth, although that wasn’t so bad.

MaidOfSteel · 04/10/2023 00:13

Sciatica. It feels like my leg is on fire. I just sit, shaking and crying when it's at its worst.

OnlyJoking1 · 04/10/2023 00:24

Dry socket, I got assaulted at work thrown down the stairs, resulted in 2 slipped discs and three surgeries. I got pensioned off and a lump sum.
kidney stones and sepsis three times.
FND and CRPS whilst both are painful, not as painful as the other stuff, I had three children without any problems.

I’ve had colonoscopies, lots of bowel surgery, a c section, eye surgery and a broken leg but nothing will ever compare to that of giving birth naturally, the relentless pain for hours upon hours having contractions to then end on the crescendo of your fanny ripping down to your asshole.

None of you are really selling motherhood to me here. Grin

RunDeeEmCee · 03/10/2023 23:48

Omg, yes! Sweeps are absolutely horrific. The midwife asked me to just “hop up on the bed, it’s painless and quick”

I was screaming in pain and crying from the shock of it. I’ll never accept a sweep again!

Th sweep felt like she had her hand up to her elbow stuffed up there, the midwife just told me to stop being mardy & that pain was nothing like I would feel in labour. After my emcs she had to come & apologise as the consultant had said there was no way I could have delivered him naturally.

Haha, I feel like all the childbirth stories here should be collated and told to girls in school.

Izzy54321 · 04/10/2023 00:27

A total knee replacement and I’ve had several broken bones and 2 C Sections. The pain was definitely a 10 on the pain scale.

BeaLola · 04/10/2023 00:27

It's between ovarian hyper stimulation after IVF treatment - probably because I was on my own and thought I was going to die the pain was so intense or when my stomach started to strangulate - luckily fixed by surgery

Time4TERF · 04/10/2023 00:29

Chlamidia Sad

I was in bed for a week. Urinating was like passing razor blades.

LJordan23 · 04/10/2023 00:30

I don't understand how anything can come close to child birth. I had a 9.7lb baby with forceps. It was hell.

If it's that bad, call in sick. Period pain of that severity might even count as a disability because it's long-term and has a severe adverse impact on your ability to do everyday activities. It being a fluctuating condition doesn't prevent that as migraine also fluctuates and can still count.
