I've never broken a bone or given birth, but I have had some very painful periods that have made me feel like I'm going to pass out. Also terrible travel sickness / vomiting on a 20 hour trip that left me wishing for death due to how crap I felt.

Labour with a back to back 10lb baby when epidural didn't work, then the recovery from the emergency c section at the end 8 hours fruitless pain!

My epidural didn't work with back to back labour either. The doctors were trying to tell me it was because the pain was in a different place. The epidural technically worked in that I was completely numb in the vagina, but as the pain was all in my back it didn't help.

Rosebud21 · 03/10/2023 22:57

Shoulder dislocation, a completely disorientating experience with pain so intense that I wasn't sure if I was about to pass out, vomit, or empty my bowels, or do all three at once

Moveoverdarlin · 03/10/2023 22:58

I’ve had colonoscopies, lots of bowel surgery, a c section, eye surgery and a broken leg but nothing will ever compare to that of giving birth naturally, the relentless pain for hours upon hours having contractions to then end on the crescendo of your fanny ripping down to your asshole.

Jolie12345 · 03/10/2023 22:58
  1. popped rib
  2. Kidney stones
  3. labour
Clarabe1 · 03/10/2023 22:58

My lung collapsing. God almighty it was like a red hot knife twisting inside me with an added ‘bonus’ of complete and utter panic because I couldn’t breathe. I would have shot myself if I had a gun.
Followed by kidney stones. I am pretty hard when it comes to pain but i wailed like a baby. Morphine did not even take the edge off.

Floopyfloop · 03/10/2023 22:59

Gallstones
Oroantral Fistula surgery
Dislocated pelvis
Endometriosis
Blocked catheter following botched surgery

If I was a dog they would have put me down!

TheTempest · 03/10/2023 22:59

Cauda equina, hands down. And I’ve given birth, had a c section after a week of labour, had a hysterectomy and enough dental issues to last me a lifetime. Immediately waking up from a gastric sleeve is a close second though!

autumnnightsaredrawingin · 03/10/2023 22:59

Oooh. I’ve had 3 c sections, a broken leg and kidney stones, the kidney stones were horrific. The pain I can only describe as labour x100 (and I’ve been in labour!). Really so awful, just constant waves of intense pain with no respite and not even the thought of a baby at the end!

Eartoday · 03/10/2023 22:59

After the birth of dc2 (natural, no drugs) I had a retained placenta and was given oxytocin to bring on contractions before they operated. It was absolute hell, far worse than any of my labours. Also, this doesn’t count in terms of physical pain, but mentally it scarred me- when they removed the placenta I was under a local anesthetic and could hear everything/feel my body rocking the entire time.

HellYeahAurora · 03/10/2023 23:00

A kidney infection that I spent 4 days in hospital on ivs for.
I also had an injection into my thumb which was right between the joints. The needle got stuck and bent. It had to be prised out.
Can’t decide which was the worst but I’d never like to ever relive either.

WiseGerri · 03/10/2023 23:00

Pain upon waking from surgery after having pin and wire inserted into my elbow. I’ve broken other bones, had a C section and natural birth and the pain after that surgery was the worst.

BigBundleOfFluff · 03/10/2023 23:01

Sciatica from a slipped disc. Would have jumped at the chance of just being a torso.

randomrandom · 03/10/2023 23:01

ReverseFerret · 03/10/2023 22:35

Adenomyosis

Every fucking months for years and years as GPs wouldn't take it seriously
Looking back I'm so angry with how much of my life was wasted being in pain

No man would be expected to put up with that

Angry

Mine was a decade of begging, utterly horrendous how we are treated

fluffbear123 · 03/10/2023 23:01

Breaking a rib. I can honestly say that the pain was pretty close to childbirth but without the pain relief... ouch!

Rosebud21 · 03/10/2023 23:01

@Moveoverdarlin for a brief moment I felt an echo of that crescendo because of your epic description, it sounds horrific

CurlyhairedAssassin · 03/10/2023 23:01

first labour. Almost constant contractions that didn't have much effect on pushing DS down. There was no build up so I could have some gas and air in time, so had to have an epidural in the end.

In contrast my second labour was pretty text book "normal" labour pain. ie. when each contraction came (and they were regular), there was enough of a buildup to a peak to enable me to really suck on the gas and air. Then it died back down again. I remember thinking "Ah, so THIS is what labour pains SHOULD be like!"

Had a nerve in a tooth die off after a failed filling. Even just opening the car door meant a change of air temperature which made the pain worse. I remember banging my head on the kitchen island and crying, until a kind emergency dentist came out of a family bbq on a Sunday to open up the surgery wtih an equally kind dental nurse, so that the tooth could be packed. Bliss followed soon after.

Failed ear piercings. Holes started to close up around the studs. I remember sweating and almost fainting and vomiting with the pain when I went back to get them looked at.

WorzelG · 03/10/2023 23:01

Sepsis. Then being induced.

excited18 · 03/10/2023 23:02

Ear infection/ ear drum ruptured

Worse than child birth

albalass · 03/10/2023 23:02

Most intense, short lived pain would either be getting anaesthetic injections to numb a broken finger - by the 5th attempt the room was spinning and I had to lie down - or getting stitched removed from my lip.

Worst longer lasting pain was an infected jaw bone in my early 20s - absolute agony that went on for days, unrelenting. I also sometimes have horrendous period pain but usually only for 2-3 hours at a time.

Labour I found ok actually (natural, 2nd degree tear but no complications) - but that was probably helped a lot by use of tens machine and gas and air.

My dear old dad who died a few months ago had kidney stones a couple of times. They were the only times in his life I've ever seen him cry. He also had gallstones and found them painful (passing out when his bp dropped from the pain) but the kidney stones seemed to be the worst for him.

Aliceinunderland · 03/10/2023 21:02

When I had an air bubble in my chest/shoulder following a C-section. Even morphine didn't touch that pain! I thought I was dying

Absolutely this

SweetFemaleAttitude · 03/10/2023 23:04

Not rtft, but I'm sure someone else will have mentioned a corneal ulcer.

More painful than childbirth.

MartyFunkhouser · 03/10/2023 23:05

I’m one of those lucky or weird women that didn’t find labour particularly painful.

And I have adenomyosis and just assumed that was how periods felt for most.

But Jesus Christ. A dental abscess nearly had me certified. Worst. Pain. Ever.

glossypeach · 03/10/2023 23:05

I just want to say you all are incredible. Absolute amazing people to go through what you’ve been through and come out on the other side often with the trauma attached to that event/s. I hope you’re all healthy, happy and thriving now!

IHateLegDay · 03/10/2023 23:06

Gallstones.
I couldn't speak or move and was sweating and shaking. The only thing that stopped the pain was IV paracetamol, codeine, Morphine and buscopan.
I lost 3.5 stone in less than 3 months.
Surgery was the best thing ever!!
