I've never broken a bone or given birth, but I have had some very painful periods that have made me feel like I'm going to pass out. Also terrible travel sickness / vomiting on a 20 hour trip that left me wishing for death due to how crap I felt.

OP posts:

Broken clavicle and 5 broken ribs after a fall from my horse. Unbelievably painful and incapacitating. It was horrific

Cluster headaches. Hands down the worst. A couple of years ago I accidentally gave myself a concussion after I intentionally jumped into a beam to try to knock myself out just to escape from the pain 😳.

Agree with cluster headaches- I shaved my head to get rid of some weight and wore an eyepatch for several months like a pirate.

There is nothing I have experienced that compares to that pain...

I'm soon to give birth for the 3rd time. Childbirth was nowhere near as painful.

StorminanDcup · 03/10/2023 22:02

a nasty bout of mastitis was horrendous, my chest felt like it had been set alight

Bacterial tonsillitis, never been so unwell.

LightSpeeds · 03/10/2023 22:02

Dry socket after a wisdom tooth removal.

Labour of second child.

Playingintheshadow · 03/10/2023 22:02

Tendinitis in my foot which came on in week 17 of my second pregnancy, and lasted until after I gave birth!

Whattheduck · 03/10/2023 22:03

When I had Salmonella the stomach cramps were horrendous I ended up in hospital for 3 days on a drip (I was away from home in London with Dh for the weekend and it was the first time we had left our Dd who was 6 months old she was with my mil)
As a result from the Salmonella I now have reactive arthritis which can reduce me to tears some days
Broken rib
Migraines

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 03/10/2023 22:03

80 odd hours of back to back labour pain where ds's giant head was ramming into my spine sending shock waves of pain down my back and thighs.

Nothing has touched it before or since. I wanted to die. I thought I was good with pain til then. Had 2 emergency sections and not needed any pain relief afterwards. Broke a bone in my foot and didn't realise I had a problem at first. Had wisdom teeth out, all fine. That labour pain though....

LakeTiticaca · 03/10/2023 22:03

Trying to birth a 9lb 8oz infant 😫

MrsMitford3 · 03/10/2023 22:04

dislocated kneecap. was home alone with 3 dc and I kept passing out from the pain. please note I have had 3 dc this was much worse

PodgePie · 03/10/2023 22:04

Having a lost coil pulled out of me by the fist without any pain killers.

BorgQueen · 03/10/2023 22:04

DH suffers from chronic PVS pain from a botched vasectomy 10 years ago.
He used to have an ultrasound guided nerve blocking injection and pulsed electro therapy every 6 months but it stopped working.
On a bad day his left testicle goes rigid and pulls right up due to the damaged / sensitive nerve, he says it feels like someone has it in a vice. Painkillers have no effect, the stronger they are, the less they seem to work on him. He’s the same with anaesthetic, needs far more than most people, very weird.

Wrongsideofpennines · 03/10/2023 22:06

Fractured coccyx. I've laboured 3 times with a bit of gas and air (and one was induction with drip) and the coccyx injury just edged it.

Conkersandlattes · 03/10/2023 22:07

Dry socket after wisdom tooth extraction.

Labour. I remember pleading with my husband to ‘help me’. Induction and only gas and air for 24 hours (to be told I was only 1cm dilated). Horrendous!

Boydd · 03/10/2023 22:07

Double mastectomy. The infection afterwards was the worse pain ever

TattiePants · 03/10/2023 22:08

A very specific part of DS’s birth. He was back to back so after 19 hours of Labour and a couple of hours of pushing, he still wouldn’t descend and my contractions stopped. I was hooked up to a drip to get them going again and they were starting to get concerned about his heart rate. The (tiny) doctor decided to try to manually turn him which meant her hand/arm up my chuff and the pain was excruciating. Made worse by the fact that I was so out of it I didn’t really take in what she was about to do. I did wonder why they were so insistent on me having gas and air. DH described it as like a scene from All Creatures Great and Small!

Closely followed by dry socket after a wisdom tooth removal and the ear infections I get 4-6 times a year when my ear seals itself shut!

slowsundays · 03/10/2023 22:08

The headache I experience sometimes when the plane lands. It is so painful I can't even scream in pain. It takes all of my energy to stay conscious and lasts about 30 minutes. Vile.

Aprilx · 03/10/2023 22:09

Tooth abscess. It was relentless, it didn’t ebb and flow like some pains do.

Cancermummy · 03/10/2023 22:09

The forceps delivery with no pain relief was hideous. It also caused my bowel to perforate leading to septic shock. Don't know how I managed to go six days before caving and going to a&e. I couldn't even roll over without wanting to scream.

Mayhemmumma · 03/10/2023 22:10

2 babies with no intervention or pain relief but worse was:

Laser eye surgery (immediately afterwards with a severely bruised eye ball it turned out) felt like my eye would explode. (Amazing now I have great vision)

Dry socket - number 1 worst pain I've ever experienced, I was hysterical and almost OD on painkillers

Anotherdayanothernight · 03/10/2023 22:10

Gallbladder infection that left me hospitalised for 4 nights 2 weeks ago, still not 100%

Escapetofrance · 03/10/2023 22:10

Toothache and my 1st labour.

Ihatemondays1962 · 03/10/2023 22:10

Slipped disc in my back and associated nerve pain. It was relentless, went on for months and painkillers did nothing.

wordler · 03/10/2023 22:10

Dry socket after tooth extraction - wanted to chop head off

Littlewhitecat · 03/10/2023 22:10

Child birth with a brow presentation that wasn't picked up until it was almost too late and in which I had no pain relief until EMC. It has left me with PTSD, an out of body experience and a 7 hour gap in my memory. It has had the knock on effect that my pain threshold is staggeringly high now as if I don't want someone to shoot me I don't think it's that bad. I subsequently had dry socket after a wisdom tooth extraction which I barely registered, but caused medical professionals dealing with me to wince.

Frostyloz · 03/10/2023 22:11

SocksAndTheCity · 03/10/2023 21:42

Dental abscess definitely the worst, but sciatica not far behind it - when I could actually manage to get up I had to walk in tiny steps around the edge of the room with my hands on the wall to take as much weight off my back as I could.

The delight known as 'javelin arse' would be on the list too, although it's thankfully left me alone for a while.

Hah, I’ve never heard it called that before. In fact, I’ve never heard it called anything as I didn’t know it was a thing other people got. It’s good to know I’m not alone.

Thank god it only lasts a few seconds (though sometimes I get a few attacks in quick succession). I hate when it happens in public and you have to try not to react so you don’t have to explain yourself to anyone!
