To miss out on class parties

Seems silly but Ds has just started reception and so far all birthday party invites up until November have been on weekends he is with his dad. So I don’t get the chance to chat to other parents as much. Doesn’t help his dad and I don’t get on! At least Ds is going though.

Could you not take him to one? Say to ex ‘DS has got a party on Saturday, I’m happy to pick him up at 2pm and drop him back at 4, is that ok with you?’

Up to you, but you’re right, it is a good way to chat to other parents. Also hell on earth mind you…

TBH if he's happy to take your DC I don't see the problem. When your DC got a couple close friends you can always arrange some playdates and meet their parents.

Why don't you go too? Just turn up separately. Is dad at least providing the present? If he isn't, you could say you are going to drop the present off yourself and then stay for a coffee.

Yes will start planning play dates after the half term. Thinking of inviting a few for a mini Halloween tea before going out trickle treating at Halloween so should help. Might look strange if I turn up too as he takes the gps as well. Neither of us drive and we live a distance so driving is done by Ds gp who I would imagine go into the parties too… god knows what they would say about me!

I’m sure some more will crop up during my time and it will even out but would have been nice at the start of reception in particular 🤷‍♀️ Saves me a fortune I suppose!

I’m sorry that you are missing out and you are right in the fact that it’s a good way of meeting people but honestly I’d be over the moon 🙈.
