To get frustrated with my macbook

Probably not an AIBU but didn’t know where to post. I have had apple products for well over 15 years. I have an iPhone, iPad and iMac air, and like how they all sync together. But recently my Mac I driving me mad! I can’t seem to open some Microsoft document ms sent over email, and if I send something then often the formatting in all wrong

Those who have a mac, what program do you use to open Microsoft documents. Preferably free!! I don’t use it all the time so don’t really want a subscription like 365, or even a big upfront cost

It's a Microsoft document, so you'll need Microsoft software - some version of Office.
There's no real free alternative that works perfectly - MS Office costs money because it's generally very good.

I use Office 365 on my Mac.
