Non Parents in Parent and Child parking spots

MrsM494 · 02/10/2023 22:02

Its really getting on my nerves how people are parking in Parent and Child spots despite not having children. I saw 3 cars like this today and 2 the other week. I watched one woman act sheepishly as she saw me struggle to take my toddler and baby out of my car in a regular parking spot, whilst she (with no children) parked in a parent and child spot. I don't want to be confrontational but would I be in the wrong to ask people to park better?!

I find it amazing how valuable, how necessary, how vital it is to have P&C spaces.....but only if they're close to the shop door.

A nearby supermarket has just upgraded the car park. Blue badges right outside front door, surrounded by normal parking.

P&C spaces all along one long side, shaded by trees and hedging and loads of space, but a 30 second walk to the shop door, via a traffic free path.

I have yet to see even half of those spaces filled, whereas before the upgrade, parents could be seen queueing for spaces to come free - that was when they were adjacent to the BB's, right outside the front door.

People like me?

You said you're parking legit in a disabled space so no not you at all??? You've got a blue badge?

BodegaSushi · 04/10/2023 11:44

They’re not going to get caught and punished because it’s not a crime. HTH.

Ahhh so because it's not a crime we should all shut up and not say anything??? Mother and child spots aren't just convenience, they're also for safety, we shouldn't be so blasé about this. Not a crime but it does make you an a**hole.

But he wasn't with me when i was putting shopping in car so would look like i was on my own i had to go back for him.
My point is you don't know if they were picking a child up

But you have a blue badge and not all disabilities are visible (I have an invisible one myself) and you're not even parking in parent and child so I literally don't think you've done anything wrong and would never say anything to you????
Unlike disabilities, no children are invisible. Why would someone be picking up a baby or toddler (let's be honest that's more who the spaces are for) from a supermarket???? There's no logical explanation and even if you pull one out your butt with your whataboutery then it's still very very unlikely.

MollyMarples · 04/10/2023 12:16

I assume they have a disability which means they need to be closer to the store. However, the Amazon parcel collector drivers parking in the parent bays! That really winds me up.

Blue badge trumps your kid. Get a hold of yourself. Try being a human.

Being disabled is not a free pass to be an arsehole too.

I’m pretty sure those saying they have the right to take the parent and child spaces would be up in arms if someone decided to use the disabled toilets because they decided it was justified.

WeHaveChocIcesInTheFreezer · 04/10/2023 12:20

First of all why should I when I am the exact person who have a right to use these spots?

Secondly I need plenty of space at either side of the car that is part of the parking spot (to enable a double pushchair to be parked up to get each baby out), I refuse to leave one of my children unattended at the end of/other side of the car in the line of passing cars just to accommodate lazy and entitled individuals misusing the spaces reserved for parents and children.

Could you be any more offensive?

A blue badge holder can ABSOLUTELY park in a Parent and Child space. They have the legal, as well as moral, right to do so.

Anyone but the most massive of dicks knows this.

You get worse.

You can;t compare accessible (not disabled, thank you) toilets with parent and child spaces.
The accessible toilet is a legally required necessity. P&C spaces are a gimmick that have no legal basis.

and your anology is idiotic and backwards. In this scenario you're telling people with disabilities they can't use any bathroom that has a changing station in it!

No, they clearly don’t have the moral right.

As to legal rights, it’s not illegal for anyone to use the disabled spaces in a supermarket car park either, or to use disabled toilets.

I’m going to bet that you’re going to claim that legality suddenly doesn’t matter now.

Look, I get it, you are overly entitled and think that you get to do what you want, irrespective of the inconvenience that you cause to others, but please then don’t complain when others show the same lack of consideration to you.

Of course they do. There's actually something wrong with you.

The inconvenience DISABLED PEOPLE cause to ABLE BODIED PARENTS. By using spaces they need, rather than want.

This is your hill to die on?

What has gone wrong with your life that this where you are?

When my twins were small (and I was massively hormonal and sleep deprived) I used to confront these entitles arseholes - asking them if they would be happy to leave their baby in the road to get the other one out the car etc. One lovely gentleman started an argument over how he was (as a childless adult) being discriminated against. I gave as good as I got and he moved his car. I used to get the staff at my local store to confront them too. Still annoys me and my children are teenagers; I would never park in one of those spaces without young children. I think pregnant ladies should use them too as it’s sometimes impossible to get back in your car otherwise. They deserve to be embarrassed by being called out for their selfish behaviour. It might not seem important, but if you have more than one infant/child it’s near impossible to safely use a normal space. It costs nothing to be considerate of others.

Honey, I'm not the unpleasant one here.

Everyone here, apart from you, knows that a person with a disability can absolutely park in the P&C space if they need to, and should do.

We all know this. You're the only one who thinks that your need to get your car seat out is more important that people with disabilities being able to shop.

Please do refrain from engaging, you're making me feel a little sick.

Tbh I don't think the safety of children really factors into or matters to a lot of people. They are just drunk on the 'entitled parents' (realistically mothers) rhetoric that's so prevalent and encouraged online. I do think some people come here just to be as goady and unpleasant to mothers as possible. Weird hobby but what can you do?

I was talking about you. That you really think little Jimmy takes priority over someone that is disabled is mind boggling.

Disability parking spaces/facilities/accessibility is a legal requirement. Mummy and Only Child in the World parking spaces are a gesture.
