Non Parents in Parent and Child parking spots

MrsM494 · 02/10/2023 22:02

Its really getting on my nerves how people are parking in Parent and Child spots despite not having children. I saw 3 cars like this today and 2 the other week. I watched one woman act sheepishly as she saw me struggle to take my toddler and baby out of my car in a regular parking spot, whilst she (with no children) parked in a parent and child spot. I don't want to be confrontational but would I be in the wrong to ask people to park better?!

I must be in such a minority, I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone park in a P&C space without a child… or at least I haven’t noticed.

I do remember though someone absolutely going off at my mum (who is in her 60’s) taking my Nan who has a blue badge to Tesco and wheeling her to the door, and then jogging back because she forgot the bags and being confronted. She was so upset. I think just being kind and giving people the benefit of the doubt would just be a nicer way to live.

Tbh I don't think the safety of children really factors into or matters to a lot of people. They are just drunk on the 'entitled parents' (realistically mothers) rhetoric that's so prevalent and encouraged online. I do think some people come here just to be as goady and unpleasant to mothers as possible. Weird hobby but what can you do?

Children would be safe if they were kept on eye on, the entitlement narrative comes from mothers expecting the world to revolve around them. I saw a load of you entitled vultures circle on a pregnant woman on here the other day because she said she used a space and got shouted out. A woman that probably actually cant even get out of her car in a normal spot at that point as opposed to Cheryl over there demanding the spot because she has 5 kids that shes never bothered to discipline and therefore dont listen to a thing she says and might get run over.

Id suggest you dont notice because you're a normal human being that doesnt go out looking for trouble for the sake of it, as opposed to posters above that are seemingly proud they manage to kick off at someone every time they go shopping.

Honey, they meant you. Are you admitting to trolling? Because that would be so much better than knowing people actually are vile and entitled as you are.

Ahhh so because it's not a crime we should all shut up and not say anything??? Mother and child spots aren't just convenience, they're also for safety, we shouldn't be so blasé about this. Not a crime but it does make you an a**hole.

You’re the one that said people should get called out and that people don’t commit crime because it’s socially unacceptable and gets called out and I pointed out it’s not a crime. I’m just giving your words back to you.

What I actually love about all this parental outrage, is that the P&C child spaces are the most blatant of marketing gimmicks they could come up with. Stick some little spaces outside, make mummy feel super important over the other plebs so that she chooses to spend her money in our store, all for very little expenditure, a couple of new painted little white lines and there you have it.

BodegaSushi · 04/10/2023 13:16

MollyMarples · 04/10/2023 12:16

I assume they have a disability which means they need to be closer to the store. However, the Amazon parcel collector drivers parking in the parent bays! That really winds me up.

Ooooh or the UPS van who parked HORIZONTALLY across several disabled bays. Have me the absolute rage.

Kwasi · 04/10/2023 13:16

Not as annoying as parking in parent and child bays while one parent stays in the car with the kids and the other goes in alone to shop. They should know better.

"Orders from companies with known poor working conditions, expecting next day delivery, complains when drivers have to park where ever they can with urgency to be able to stand a chance of making all their deliveries that day lest they be sacked"

I was referring to people using the term 'policing' but you've made my point for me, I'm not policing anything because it's not a crime! I'm simply commenting on selfish behaviour that puts others in harms way, when I see it

no I’m the one complaining. The one with care of someone with a BB. Don’t really give a shit what their reason is for doing it

Jenkinsbry · 04/10/2023 13:36

Whilst a little frustrating. . . It’s just a parking space. It’s not that deep.

What would you do if you got there and they were all full of parents using them properly? You’d just park elsewhere. Simple.

If you find one free, great! But it’s really not hard to find another suitable parking space. First world problems 🙄

AutumnCrow · 04/10/2023 13:55

Our big Sainsburys says on the blue badge signs that if all the disabled spaces are in use, blue badge holders should use the parent & child spaces, which are close by.

I'll get a pic next time I'm there. In fact I may make car park signage my new hobby. It's certainly entertaining.

Certainlyreally · 04/10/2023 14:00

HongKongGarden · 04/10/2023 11:17

Of course they are. They are taking a space that has been set aside for someone else to use.

Oh behave

A blue badge holder has had to jump through vitural hoops and needs a wider space normally to park!

Being disabled is not a free pass to be an arsehole too.

Jesus fucking Christ. You’re really embarrassing yourself. Gross.

It does seem that way. Parent and child spaces are often where they are to avoid having to walk your children across a busy car park, but some posters seem almost gleeful at making that happen.

I’m not sure if it’s mothers they hate, or children, or both.

Or a third option, entitlement.

ThePenguinIsDrunk · 04/10/2023 14:17

While I agree in general with you i also feel that the parent and child spots should be further away - less tempting but still more room to get toddlers/car seats in and out.

There is no reason you can't walk your children across a busy car park. You can WALK.

the people who can't walk, however....they need to be up front.

Are you getting there yet? Or is your insane sense of entitlement still blinding you to reality?

Mumofferralkid3 · 04/10/2023 15:00

This was always my thinking. I'd rather park further away from shop. I nearly always choose a space that has noone parked either side as mine are still young (9/7/5) so likely to fling a door open without caution.

As annoying as it is that people park in these spaces, there are folk breaking rules all over the place. I'd pick my battles on more worthy causes.

BettyBoops · 04/10/2023 17:34

Urgh it's my biggest pet hate! Especially when you see people with child seats in the car but they don't actually have their kids with them! As a parent of two young children I would never dream of parking there when I don't have my kids with me!

Rainbowraisin · 04/10/2023 17:54

I've used a P+C space today with no kids on board and am unrepentant. Just me and Mum with me needing to unload the heavy pieces of a mobility scooter from the boot and re-assemble it. I've had enough numpties practically driving over me as I try to do that when parked in a normal space, I need a safe space. If I can park adjacent to a path or walkway and set up there, I will, but if not I head for P+C. I wouldn't dream of using a disabled space by the way.

Before anyone starts on about getting a blue badge, they aren't that easy to come by. Mum is not entitled to one because, with her stick, she can still get around a bit on foot. To actually enjoy life and get a bit further her scooter is her lifeline.

You were right to use it.

In any case, she's the parent and you're her child, so what's the issue anyway?

I don’t anyone would begrudge you the space - I think we all agree it’s the lazy piss takers we are angry about.
