To ask how I can quickly lose 8 stone?

Weightlosswonders · 02/10/2023 19:27

I need to lose 8 stone as fast as possible.

In an ideal world I would do it more slowly and in the healthiest possible way but due to current circumstances, I need to lose it as quickly as possible.

Im looking into a possible meal replacement diet but that’s looking rather pricey! (Around £12 a day which is too much for one person!)

All suggestions welcome. (my interim target is 4 stone by Christmas) and I’d welcome any advice from anyone who’s down similar.

We had (I don’t think it’s on anymore) a TV program here in the US called “The Biggest Loser”. They would compete to lose the most from one week to the next. While the diet is restrictive, they describe it as moderately low carb and no sugar. They exercised like crazy. Just read about a woman who was on the show and how she has maintained her loss. I’m not going to link any of it. If you’re interested, it’s something to look into for fast weight loss while still eating food.

marketing101 · 02/10/2023 22:32

What do you currently eat? Surely start from there at what is achievable

Spidey66 · 02/10/2023 22:32

And I agree with those about exercise. You can't do c25k when you're 8 stone overweight, but some walking (eg round the block....borrow a dog if need be) might help. Water aerobics can be be brilliant if your overweight and want to start xxx

LittleGlowingOblong · 02/10/2023 22:33

As someone who put on 3 stone going through Covid / menopause I have to wonder what weight you are.

It might change people’s advice wrt exercise and nutrition. It’s a category change!

Escapetofrance · 02/10/2023 22:33

You could lose 8 stone in a year, really going for it.
All those saying it’s unhealthy to eat too few calories etc, it’s not as unhealthy as needing to lose that amount of weight. Drastically reducing your calories and exercising is the way to go.
You can do it if you really, really want to.

Ineedsleepnotsugar · 02/10/2023 22:34

Would recommend exercise, small portion size, no snacking , no processed v food and whole grains.

Exercise. Just an absolute mountain of exercise - running if you can possibly. Weights work too, more muscle = burning more calories.

Careful calorie control - no empty calories from drinks etc, healthy whole grains no white carbs, lean protein eg prawns, chicken, turkey, eggs.

Exercise is good. But I did a challenge in July where I exercised every day and I actually out on weight because I was starving all the time.
If you need to lose 8 stone I would say you are more overweight than BMI recommends so make sure you hit 10k steps a day. Work out 2-3 times a week (maximum) and make sure you have lots of water and protein.

strawberryandcreams · 02/10/2023 22:41

OP, I wrote you do little exercise and are 165cm tall and age 35. Apologies for the guessing.
I added your weight and this is the calories you need to be having per day.

Drink water. Eat protein. Sip a lot of flavoured packet soup to hound off cravings. (Worked for me)

Good luck. Even 2 stone by Xmas will spur you on.

I also weigh myself everyday to see the fluctuation so I don't get disheartened by the number. It will go up and down.

Take body measurements and before pics!

There is a real risk you could trash your metabolism trying to lose weight this quickly and risk gallbladder problems.
It is hard to lose weight sustainably this quickly most people will put it back on over time.
You need to be honest with yourself about what you are eating that has led to the weight gain and realistic about what can be achieved.
I would focus on eating home cooked unprocessed food with an emphasis on protein and veg and some unprocessed carbs. Reduce sugar and processed foods. Increase your activity and make sure you get as much sleep as you need.
If you have any health issues see your GP.

Flidina · 02/10/2023 22:47

Have you considered Weightloss surgery? I'm having a bypass, shortly but even with this, I think it will still take some time.

NotAMug · 02/10/2023 22:50

I lost 30lb in 16 weeks and that was going from 10st 13 to 8st 11 on Weight Watchers, so I reckon you could easily do 3 stone minimum going from 22 stone.

Tesco shakes are great, they are practically the same ingredients as Herbalife but a lot cheaper. I have lost smaller amounts of weight very quickly on shakes, I always have shakes for breakfast and lunch plus 2 high protein snacks during the day, then a normal meal in the evening. I never felt hungry on shakes.

Youremylobser87 · 02/10/2023 22:53

Keto, the weight will drop off you. I've lost 19lbs in 4 weeks so far. But you have to be strict, no cheating whatsoever and I walk the dog 3x a day. Cheaper than the meal replacements and you won't be hungry.

ToastMarmalade · 02/10/2023 23:02

You need to go to your GP and ask him to refer you for expert help and advice.

It’s 8 stone and I think it’s been shown that to lose that amount of weight it’s really hard unless you get professional advice. If you try diets you will likely fail on your own, or yo yo, it’s really important to take your motivation which is great but to the right place. The doctors surgery., not mumsnet.

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/10/2023 23:05

Low/No carb.

Its affordable (well more affordable then meal replacements) and practical. The first few stone will fall off fairly quickly, at 22 stone, you could possibly do a 3/4 stone loss by Xmas.

However.......very fast weight loss can cause its own issues. My sister now has a life long chronic gall bladder issue all on the back of fast loss on Cambridge. Also, low blood sugar can be very very dangerous.

Why does it need to be so fast? If it is for a medical procedure then be sure that you wont cause bigger issues by losing fast than postponing the op and doing is more healthily.

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/10/2023 23:07

Also meal replacements etc are not a long term solution. Yes you will lose the weight but you havent learned a better way of eating so the weight will go back on, faster, when you stop.

Scully01 · 02/10/2023 23:17

I'm been on Ozempic for weight loss since start of August and have only lost a stone, it's not the quick fix it's made out to be, especially as first month is a smaller dose just to get used to the drug. 4 stone by Xmas seems quite difficult sorry.

Userxxxxx · 02/10/2023 23:26

Not sure it can be done, unless it’s truly surgery, happy to be proven wrong.

Last year mid Nov started on Saxenda, up’d exercise, just creeped into the 2 stone loss by Christmas Day. I lost 12lb in the first week (had a lot to lose) and could see it in my face day 6 which was the biggest spur on.

It got hard around the 6 months marker losing Liraglutide but I tried to keep with it and only put a stone on of the 3 I lost.

I’ve recently gone on to weekly injections (not Ozempic) and whilst happy it is back to controlling the supermarket visits (plus keeping up exercise walking & Aqua Aerobics) an early result is 2lb off so far though I have to keep reminding myself I’m smaller size then last November.

I think weight loss needs to be over time, otherwise you might not appreciate it.

caringcarer · 02/10/2023 23:29

I lost 3 stone in 13 weeks on Ozempic. It is expensive but it takes your appetite away to some extent.

theduchessofspork · 02/10/2023 23:33

I lost 4 stone in 7 months doing Atkins (those were the days). That was 16 to 1/ stone.

And then put it on again and then some. (cliche)

Trying a slow n steady approach now

I’m guessing you want to lose for a medical procedure? Not that I think this is the best way but you might find Keto easier than a very low calorie diet. I was never hungry and could have eaten a bit less/lost a bit quicker and still not have been hungry.

I wouldn’t advocate this though, and would suggest you get your Gp to refer you to
a dietician and for a weight loss drug programme.

theduchessofspork · 02/10/2023 23:34

As PPs are saying, the trouble with extreme and quick weight loss diets is you haven’t learned to eat normally, so the weight goes back on.

TheLastScone · 02/10/2023 23:46

op isnt engaging.

Pancakepipsqueak · 02/10/2023 20:37

@NeedToChangeName ive heavily researched before doing the diet and it’s working well for me. Blood sugar stabilised, more energy, no brain fog, good sleep.

There’s so many posts now I’ve lost track! Which diet are you doing?

My friend and her husband are doing the injections and have lost 7 stone between them in 3 months

£££ tho at £200 a month but they're saving a lot on food as it's an appetite suppressant!!

Do you know how much they’re eating in a day?

I weighed just over 22 stone in June. I've lost 3.5 stone since then because I have gallstones triggered by eating fat and over eating so I've basically halved my portion sizes and eat as little fat as possible. The weight loss is slowing down now though.

What do you typically eat in a day? :)
