To ask if this tenerife forecast could be wrong?!

First holiday abroad in 4 years coming up in 2 weeks time.
First holiday in a hotel. No cooking, no cleaning. Just our family of 3 all having fun together, in the water & sun...

Weather forecast in Tenerife has shown amazing 33 degrees and sunny for weeks.
Seemingly right until the day we arrive when it goes cloudy, 10 degrees cooler (i dont mind that) and RAINY ?!?! For most of the 10 days we're there?

Is this possible? I thought rain was quite rare in Tenerife?!

We thought so long and hard about this, have had an awful few years so Spent a fortune and treated ourselves.

I know long forecasts are dodgy but it really does look like a dodgy front moves in.
Waaaah! Very 1st World Problem, I do realise.

Not super unusual in October, it's still warm but can be wet here and there, usually in short bursts though. Nov-Feb are the rainiest months. I'm sure you'll still have a nice time!

RainbowZebraWarrior · 02/10/2023 15:33

Which part of the island are you going to? The North gets quite a lot of rain at this time of year. It's something to do with the volcano. We had a week of rain once over Christmas. Still nice not to have to cook and clean though.

EvilElsa · 02/10/2023 15:34

I'd wait and see. Could change a lot in two weeks. Certainly isn't that unusual though at this time of year. Probably just showers. I'm sure you will still have an amazing time!

User174085934 · 02/10/2023 15:36

Not unusual but will probably be not as bad as you expect.

Plump82 · 02/10/2023 15:39

There's a calima at the moment. My PIL are there right now and have said it's very hot. Calimas can bring cooler weather once it's over and October can be a bit wetter than usual in the canaries. 24 degrees will be lovely this time if year! But, you can't get accurate weather for 2 weeks time. Look a couple of days before and I'll bet it's much nicer.

OhmygodDont · 02/10/2023 15:40

My In laws are going away soon and expecting the same weather. She’s keeping her fingers crossed as fil will be a grumpy arse if it’s miserable 😅. But it’s normal
this time of year.

IrresponsiblyCertainAboutSexualDimorphism · 02/10/2023 15:41

Some of the weather forecast sites are on the pessimistic side e.g. will say rain even if it’s mainly sunny with a couple of showers. It will be nicer than here whatever…

moderationincludingmoderation · 02/10/2023 15:43

Thanks all.
I really dont mind the cooler temp, 24 is perfect in my opinion. And i dont mind the odd shower at all. I grew up in the tropics and enjoy a good shower as long as it the sun comes out again afterwards!
But it's looking quite generally grey... but hopefully that's just a general 'guess' and we'll still get some sun here there.
We're staying in the Costa Adeje which is south I think?
Finges crossed! Thank you

Any rain will be a passing shower.
We are in the Canaries right now and it is 33 degrees which is probably too hot for most. 24 degrees when the sun comes out (and it will) that is very pleasant.
It can be changeable this time of year, but that works both ways remember. You will have a fab time, stop looking at forecasts which are usually overly pessimistic .

Overthebow · 02/10/2023 15:46

It’s not that unusual for October, September is usually better for weather. But the forecast wont be accurate yet so far in advance, it may well change and be a lot warmer.

moderationincludingmoderation · 02/10/2023 15:48

When we did our research the average rainfall for October showed 12mm in the south / 2 days
And an average temp of 26c...

So expected the odd dodgy day.. but not 10 days. So fingers crossed!

We went to Tenerife one January a few years ago and I wore my jeans and sweater the whole bloody time. Cold wind. I wouldn't risk going back for winter sunshine after that.

TastingSinister · 02/10/2023 15:51

When you look at the weather forecast 10 days ahead for where you actually live, is it always 100% accurate?

Brightredtulips · 02/10/2023 15:52

We went to the south of the island to ensure warm weather... :((

LakeTiticaca · 02/10/2023 15:52

Weather forecasts especially long range ones can and do change so fingers crossed for you

Islandsadness · 02/10/2023 15:54

I was there on the SW coast month ago and had a very grey forecast with highs of 22C. Safe to say I was mad!

However once there it cleared most days, hit about 26C which felt way hotter than normal (and I'm a heat lover) and only very brief showers. I think you'll be ok!

Smoky1107 · 02/10/2023 15:57

I went in October once and had to buy jeans whilst there as it was so cold. Wore a cagoule a lot and never went near the pools. Sorry not what you want to hear

No and it's often wrong even on the actual day! Hahaa so i'm trying to bear that in mind.

Mynewnameis · 02/10/2023 16:22

I'm going soon and just looking at the weather it's good. Not sure what forecast your using but probably be a shower at worst.

BarbaraofSeville · 02/10/2023 16:31

We've been a few times at this time of year and it's always been mostly hot and sunny with the odd shower at most. It's very rarely like the UK where it can be wet and cold for days on end.

meatyryvita · 02/10/2023 16:45

We had a 'big' holiday this year and I did the same, about 10 days before, I looked at the forecast and it looked like rain and storms for the entire time. I was a little nervous but when we got there, the weather was nothing like reported! Hot and sunny for 95% of the time (a bit too hot for me) with 1 rain storm that lasted about an hour or so.

Sunshinenrain · 02/10/2023 17:40

I’d rather it be cloudy or rainy than too hot.

Just pack a range of clothes for any weather and enjoy getting away from the rat race.

Ace56 · 02/10/2023 18:21

Well, yes, it’s October. Generally everywhere in the northern hemisphere (aside from the Middle East) the weather is starting to change and become cooler and more rainy. It’s the gamble you take. If you want guaranteed sunshine and heat you’d visit June - September. Otherwise it can be hit or miss

addictedtotheflats · 02/10/2023 19:58

We went adeje last November. Forcast was cloudy the whole week but it was lovely. Few overcast days but still warm. You will have a great time
