To ask the police why they are on my road?

I’m single and live alone on the ground floor. I live in a very, very quiet area (rural countryside, my village has <500 people in it). Crime rate is very low and I feel safe here. Rarely see or hear of any trouble.

Tonight there is a police car parked right outside my house, behind a civilian car it seems. The lights are flashing on the police car. It’s dark and not street lit so I can’t see much of what’s going on, and my Ring doorbell is out of range to pick up on what they’re saying. Because I’m alone and on the ground floor it’s really freaking me out. It’s been going on for about 40 minutes. Would I BU to contact the non emergency police number and ask what’s going on? I wouldn’t ask for details but even just to know what type of crime they’re here for would maybe (or maybe not) put my mind at ease. I’ve got a busy day at work tomorrow and it’s really stressing me out 😔

I wasn't making it up. The OP had said up thread that someone called her a c*nt and as yours was the only comment I could see that had been removed, I assumed it was you.
Sorry about that and only that.

Streamorwatchlive · 04/10/2023 20:56

Mumsnet confirmed there was no content like that on the thread. No-one called anyone a cunt. You / the op were just being nasty

Feel free to go crying back to mumsnet about me 😘

Someone did call the OP a c*nt, it was the second post. It was uncalled for.

The irony of your ‘mean girl’ approach is not lost on me.

There's some horrible responses on here.

I'm a police officer and in the circumstances you mention such as living alone and feeling vulnerable with police directly outside I'd be happy for you to knock on the window and ask me. If it was something I could divulge or put your mind at ease about I would.

Human beings are naturally curious. It's quite normal to want to know why police are outside your house. I can't speak for all officers but most that I know would be happy to chat to you if you came out and knocked on the windowSmile

Thank you Louisa, that’s reassuring to hear!

I couldn’t say with absolute certainty that it was Stream who called me a c*nt but I’m 99% sure it was. It was within one of those early few posts that was deleted, and Stream had a further two after that one deleted for continuing to break guidelines (one that was particularly cruel I remember word-for-word but won’t repeat it here).

As this thread is still active this evening, a vaguely amusing but unrelated update from me: I actually caused some of my own flashing lights this evening Blush A gas engineer found a leak when servicing the boiler this morning so I had emergency gas engineers around all evening with orange lights blaring off their van for hours and hours whilst they sorted it. What a week it’s been! (thankfully the gas leak is sorted now)!

I really appreciate the latter flurry of supportive comments here, it has made me feel less of an idiot for feeling so anxious on Sunday night. Thank you all Flowers

You weren't nasty at all. You were subjected to some awful posts x

RomeoMcFlourish · 05/10/2023 07:47

Agree with the previous poster, OP you were not nasty at all, and as I said in a previous post, it’s understandable that these things might unnerve people. There just seems to be a trend for people jumping on threads that they have no real interest in just to lay into the OP. I think I’ve seen more unnecessary nastiness on Mumsnet in the past week than I ever have before.

Please see attached for confirmation. Please stop your attack on me.

Yes I remember it too, but can't remember their username
