To ask the police why they are on my road?

I’m single and live alone on the ground floor. I live in a very, very quiet area (rural countryside, my village has <500 people in it). Crime rate is very low and I feel safe here. Rarely see or hear of any trouble.

Tonight there is a police car parked right outside my house, behind a civilian car it seems. The lights are flashing on the police car. It’s dark and not street lit so I can’t see much of what’s going on, and my Ring doorbell is out of range to pick up on what they’re saying. Because I’m alone and on the ground floor it’s really freaking me out. It’s been going on for about 40 minutes. Would I BU to contact the non emergency police number and ask what’s going on? I wouldn’t ask for details but even just to know what type of crime they’re here for would maybe (or maybe not) put my mind at ease. I’ve got a busy day at work tomorrow and it’s really stressing me out 😔

A stolen car?

Wonder where the thieves are hiding.... have you checked your shed or garage?

And the loft.....

That was nasty and uncalled-for. Anxiety isn't funny or worthy of crass retorts. Panic attacks and fear when you have a past that instilled that fear is real and not easy to overcome, IF it can be overcome.

I have zero idea at all why some posters feel able to make such rude comments to others, without stopping to consider someone might be anxious or have anything going on. It’s surely not hard to just be nice or scroll onto another post that interests you more. OP it’s probably not the place to post if you’re feeling anxious

I agree I don’t think they will tell you but you are very safe with police there outside. It means it’s being dealt with. Pretty much like having security out your house! Don’t worry and just go to bed. Switch the channel in your mind. I know it’s hard sometimes! Find a funny reel or video on YouTube to watch. I find the old X factor auditions distracting when I have anxiety lol. Sending hugs to you x

I think some posters get a high or a thrill at seeing how nasty and rude they can be. I just imagine what kind of loser life they must have with that behavior and thank my lucky stars that I am not them. Maybe they get a sick sense of pride if their comments get deleted. It certainly seems so by some of the posers, I mean posters. Or do I?

Do they realize they can get dished back that which they dish out? ⬆How many of the cruel ones have multiple accts. so they can turn around and ask for help, someone to listen, someone to care? More than a few, I reckon.

I'm glad the OP came here. It gave her an outlet for her fear and anxiety without her disturbing the police when they were busy.

OP--I hope you are feeling better now. You need to find someone professional to discuss your anxiety with so you can get some coping strategies to counter it.

DontGoBreakingMyHeart · 02/10/2023 06:20

Ignore the arseholes on this thread OP.

Anyone who says they wouldn’t be wondering what a police car was doing on their road late at night is lying. They may not go and ask, but there is no way that people just ignore these things.

I have a neighbour who seems to know everything that goes on in my street. And whenever she wants to know/be nosy she takes her dog for a walk.

I have a heart condition and a few years ago I had an episode. I wasn’t sure it was serious so I rang 111 and they sent an ambulance. We were out there out the front of my house for over an hour while they monitored my heart rate, and DS was inside.

He told me later that the neighbour’s dog went for three walks that afternoon 😂.

PS: I went to hospital, my heartrate stabilised and I was home a few hours later….

The responses aren't nasty your being over the top. Police pull drivers over all the time with lights on and depending on what they want to check it can take ages

some of the responses were nasty.

None of your business.
absolute over reaction.
Do not call the Police, you will be wasting their time when they could be dealing with something important (like an actual crime), not a nosey, neurotic woman.

NotTerfNorCis · 02/10/2023 06:43

People here are being very nasty to someone who lives alone and is feeling anxious late at night.

Where I live, a crime on the street soon becomes common knowledge, with people offering support and also being more cautious themselves.

Redlarge · 02/10/2023 06:45

Id ask. Id explain i live alone and just ask am i safe.

Cloudysky81 · 02/10/2023 06:49

You can just go ask them. If it’s reasonable to let you know they will, if it’s too private they won’t. Offering cups of tea might help.

Me three! It might not be the truth or an accurate description though. They rarely are. 🤔😬😉

IHateLegDay · 01/10/2023 23:57

I'm now only interested in whether Stream is mid-40s, 70+ or a completely different age 😂
Given their nasty little comments, I'm guessing a tween with too much time on their hands!

This. Whatever age they are hopefully they still have time to learn a little empathy.

Streamorwatchlive · 02/10/2023 17:47

Oh for God’s sake why is everyone always so keen to jump on a typo. It doesn’t make you clever. They happen.

🤣🤣🤣 the doubling down has really made my day - thanks stream for being the unintentional star of this thread! Hope you find some more excitement round Mumsnet tonight.

🤣🤣🤣 Steam is back delivering more 'witty' comebacks!
For a mid 40's, 70+ teenager, you are quite hilarious.

Sorry, STREAM not STEAM (although she is spouting a lot of hot air 🤭)

Why so hostile? I mean, if you can tear into someone for having a real fear and anxiety, even though it makes you look quite nasty; why do you complain when you get it dished back? A typo? How is putting out there that you are a 40's gamer and a 70+ elderly woman who isn't afraid to be alone a typo? I mean, that's some discrepancy there and see no key on my laptop or phone that could account for that kind of typo.

Take the "L" and maybe think about giving others the grace you are demanding for yourself. Until then, enjoy the roast.

Streamorwatchlive · 03/10/2023 16:21

Thanks @Nanaof1!

superplumb · 03/10/2023 16:34

Don't understand why you're freaking out. Cop car sat right outside? Prob the safest place to be.
They won't tell you. It could just a routine traffic stop

Harrystylestutu · 04/10/2023 01:52

@Streamorwatchlive fair play for coming back on the thread! Not a lot would.
sorry you've got so much backlash!

But, are you 40s or 70s? I don't want to speak disrespectfully to anyone.
Especially a lady of seventy, and also a lady of forty that might be a bit insecure of her age! I've been watching the thread and I think everyone just wants clarification of your age, a typo doesn't matter!

She was happy to dish it out so the backlash was inevitable. One of her nasty posts was deleted.

66rabbits · 04/10/2023 19:30

Glad it's all sorted now. I'm backing the OP. I live alone and would have felt exactly the same and I would have popped out and asked if there was anything to be worried about. I really don't get the YABU hysteria and insults. MN at its worst.

Streamorwatchlive · 04/10/2023 20:16

@IHateLegDay oh give over. I did not call anyone a cunt and never would. Why would you just come on a thread and make rubbish up?

Streamorwatchlive · 04/10/2023 20:51

@IHateLegDaymumsnet have removed your post and confirmed there were ‘no posts with that content.’
