Recently paid to have our loft boarded, and this is how the loft hatch/access was installed. Is this scrappy workmanship or AIBU and it’s fine?!

That would really irritate me.

StonwEd · 01/10/2023 10:47

Omg I couldn’t look at that every day! Terrible, get them back!

Weefreetiffany · 01/10/2023 10:47

I wouldn’t be happy with that

PinkFootstool · 01/10/2023 10:49

It depends. Does it line up to your roof trusses on the inside of that hatch? I'm which case, it's the internal decor that is offset. The hatch should be aligned to the trusses as the priority.

My husband is a builder, absolutely no way he would have left it looking like that. Get them back in.

PegSliderskew · 01/10/2023 10:51

The way the white part is just slightly wonky would kill me. And what's with the 'skirting' style bit floating off to one side and the apparent gouge in the opposite side?

Thankgodforwine · 01/10/2023 10:54

That would drive me insane, get them back

Cookiecrumblepie · 01/10/2023 11:16

It’s not aligned to the trusses, it’s just scrappy work. Difficulty is that they’ve cut the hole crooked so I don’t see how they can fix it! Other than ripping it out, moving and then replastering or rebuilding a part of the ceiling. It’s a nightmare.

They’ve also nailed boards directly onto my ceiling joists in a random fashion. I’m now worried that my ceiling will fall in because the joists aren’t supposed to hold more weight 😫
