Have these sausages poisoned me.

I had a sausage sandwich this morning. The sausages were in date; from Aldi. Were the Irish sausages ones. They had a bit of liquid in the packet which I thought was weird but cooked them and they tasted fine. 3 hours later I have been violently sick. I do have a bad cold as well so not sure if it’s to do with that. Could the liquid have been a problem?

Unless it smelled like fresh death I wouldn’t have thought so.

smallshinybutton · 30/09/2023 15:08

Does sound sus with the timing. Did you cook them properly?

BIWI · 30/09/2023 15:08

If they were in date, didn't smell, and you cooked them properly, then it's unlikely to have been the sausages. But vomiting is a symptom of covid.

smallshinybutton · 30/09/2023 15:09

The fact they are from Aldi or Irish is a bit irrelevant though .

Sososososoo · 30/09/2023 15:09

Thanks. They were definitely cooked properly. I have been feeling weird the last few days before, blocked nose, headache, a bit ache so could be a bug but it’s made me think because of the weird liquid in the package

How many did you eat? A whole packet?

I'd do a covid test

melisma · 30/09/2023 15:10

I'd possibly be thinking COVID as a more likely explanation for your symptoms - quite a few people I know have had gastric symptoms with whatever variant is going around at the moment. I hope you feel better soon!

Sososososoo · 30/09/2023 15:11

@smallshinybutton I had 3

What happened to the others? Out of an abundance of caution I wouldn't eat them if they are still around. If anyone else ate the others keep an eye on them.

But yea..do a covid test

Yes! It does sound very much like the covid atm

Sososososoo · 30/09/2023 15:14

@smallshinybutton I wrapped them up with tin foil and put them in the fridge but I’ll throw them out. Will also do a test. Thanks everyone

The weird liquid in the packet is surely just some seepage of the fat and water and stuff they inject them with to make them look plumper and last longer. If you roast them there's always some watery stuff in the pan. Hardly a marker of their health giving properties, but doubtful a cause of food poisoning.

Gcsunnyside23 · 30/09/2023 15:16

Liquid is normal in sausage pack. I would say it could be upset stomach from congestion or bug

BIWI · 30/09/2023 15:17

Don't throw them away! At least not until you've done a covid test!

Sososososoo · 30/09/2023 15:20

Does anybody know if dizziness is also a symptom of the new variant?

OP posts:
cardibach · 30/09/2023 15:23

Dizziness was a symptom of original covid. I had it in April 2020 and was really dizzy.

SandGroperNomad · 30/09/2023 15:36

You should do a covid test - there a huge range of symptoms

if you’ve felt weird for the last few days it’s not the sausages

Red2017 · 30/09/2023 15:40

Everything you've mentioned so far, screams covid to me. I've just had it and it was exactly as you described.

Yes. I’m on day 5 now and have had period of being quite dizzy. Haven’t vomited though but also haven’t had much of an appetite.

HellNoBedBug · 30/09/2023 15:45

If they have bacteria on them or had gone off, no amount of cooking will make them safe. Liquid sounds dodgy as fuck. You can keep them and get them tested if a Covid test comes back negative

Hellofromtheotherslide · 30/09/2023 16:05

I buy those sausages all the time and there is usually a 'juice' present in the packet. I have eaten a pack over a couple of days and never been ill from them, if that puts your mind at ease. Hopefully it isn't them and you start to feel better soon.

Probably, it was a symptom of the old one
