To not wash this?

Friend and her toddler over for lunch. Cut some carrot and cucumber sticks for her toddler to have with lunch. We had bagels from local deli.

Loading dishwasher after lunch and chatting, friend points out that’s I’ve forgotten the knife, board and peeler but I say oh I’ll use them later for the veg for tea. She says this is gross and they’re dirty.

Who is BU? I would never wash a board used for veg if it’s going to be used a few hours later. Not like I’d been dicing raw meat or anything.

Personally I'd wash them and use a clean set for dinner later, but I'd hardly say it was disgusting not to.

tealandteal · 29/09/2023 20:22

I think up to an hour or so I’d leave them, or if it’s used for slicing bread etc. In your situation I would have washed the em as they’d be dry by the time you need them.

Tiredmum100 · 29/09/2023 20:28

I would have washed them too, but I wouldn't have said it was disgusting.

Mountaineer0009 · 29/09/2023 20:51

they are used so would need rewashing

GrumpyPanda · 29/09/2023 20:54

If it's a decent quality knife it shouldn't go into the dishwasher as the blade could get blunt from it.

maybemaybeno · 29/09/2023 20:56

Depends, I’d usually wash it tbh but I wouldn’t judge you for not doing

WhateverMate · 29/09/2023 20:58

I'd wash them in the sink, it'd probably take less than a minute.

LittleOwl153 · 29/09/2023 21:00

In my house the knife and peeler would have gone in the dishwasher and the board wiped down ... then I'd probably have pulled out the peeler from the dishwasher later for dinner prep...

amiboverd · 29/09/2023 21:00

I'd wash them if it was for different meal later but not if for example I'd cut some bread to make some toast for myself and DH was going to use it within half an hour to cut some bread for himself

but then it's a bit judgey and rude of her to say it's g
disgusting

then again if I was putting the dishwasher on I'd have washed them

BrownTableMat · 29/09/2023 21:02

I wouldn’t wash it. I’m veggie so my chopping boards only get used for vegetables, fruit and sometimes cheese, and I haven’t managed to give myself food poisoning yet from chucking them in the dishwasher once a day rather than cleaning them after every use.

OhWifey · 29/09/2023 22:10

I quite happily use the same board etc all day, from packed lunches in the morning to the dinner veg. No harm has ever come of it. I'm very clean and tidy generally but washing up a board that's only had vegetables on it seems very inefficient.

CatherinedeBourgh · 29/09/2023 22:16

I'd rinse them but probably not wash them throughly. I'd rinse them because stuff would dry on them.

TheLightProgramme · 29/09/2023 22:31

I wouldn't wash it.
