To get the ick at the term “Kendachunk” (lighthearted)

Background- HCP in a setting with babies.
Current large phenomena of mums and dads calling their babies fed on kendamil infant formula “kendachunks”

gives me the heebiegeebees

it is absolutely none of my fucking business though what anyone describes their own child as. It’s just odd to me. We don’t get cow and gate chunk, sma chunk etc.

according to one of my patients they have an affiliated social media group where they’re all called kendachunks. It’s apparently endearing as kendamil is whole milk so makes babies bigger and they get more fat (it’s this bit that confuses me most.) like are kendamil babies meant to be larger as they have fattier diets?

It’s been living in my head rent free for about three days 😂
doesn’t matter at all.

Eurgh YANBU. These people are a marketer's dream aren't they?

Jeffreybubblesbombom · 28/09/2023 19:36

Never ever heard of it? Nor the formula.. mind we don't believe in formula feeding.. you can't over feed a breast fed baby.

You don’t believe in it? What, like it’s mythical?

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 you don't believe in formula feeding? What do you suggest should happen to babies whose mums aren't able or don't want to breastfeed then?

Guessguess · 28/09/2023 19:41

Also yes Kendachunk is massively cringy

Soubriquet · 28/09/2023 19:43

It’s weird how people fetishise things.

Like, now, in order to be a proper parent, you must use kendamilk.

So glad I don’t have to deal with that. My dd had SMA and ds had a prescription cows milk free milk.

Formula is essential for a plethora of reasons and whilst breastfeeding does have some natural more superior qualities formula is a wonderous invention and enables many babies to get the nutrients they need and parents to feed in a way they either need to or are forced to, or chose to

Formulas all have to have the same basic ingredients and contain the same amounts of fats whether it is from the milk or added. The whole milk from the Lake District is marketing over facts from what I can see.

NotReallySureWhatToThink · 28/09/2023 19:49

This is how kendamil advertise though

Peer marketing

Word of mouth

Cosy FB groups where some of the posters will be basically paid actors, not chummy mummies

They make themselves look super wholesome with their whole milk blah, but they're every bit as shitty as every other formula company

And this isn't a dig at formula itself or parents who need/choose to use it btw, that's nothing to do with me

I'm pissy about the companies who spend £££££ on trying to undermine the only real rival product (breastmilk) and circumvent the laws about advertising

Exactly this
the amount of mums who come to me or my colleagues and say, so we are moving from breast milk to formula at sixth months but x isn’t taking to the bottle or cup
and when we ask why are you swapping over, what can we do to try and plan a solid 95% of them say oh it’s time to swap to follow on milk because of the aptamil/sma whatever follow on adverts is unreal.

bizzare that we market something that is in essence a medical necessity to those who do not or cannot bf.

Bloody hell, my six dc would have starved to death then, I couldn't bf AT ALL.
All ff and strapping, healthy adults so Jeff shove the insulting comments.

Pineapplepie · 28/09/2023 20:19

I’m sorry that I was naive enough not to foresee formula bashing comments.
You made sure your babies had full tummies and lots of love, despite having challenges with BF - that’s the most important thing. I’m sure they’re all lovely well rounded adults who recognise not everyone will have sucess with everything

Also sorry you had a tough time, it must’ve felt tough.

Is this a Kendamil ad? Lol

Pineapplepie · 28/09/2023 21:26

I don’t think it’d be a good one
