Some men might not feel comfortable with a transman being in there in the same way a woman might not want a transwoman in female spaces.
Not really the same as a transmen present absolutely no threat to the men in these spaces, whereas a transwoman could be a serious threat to the women in such spaces.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 28/09/2023 19:25

That transman must be on testosterone or else their facial hair wouldn't grow.

Or it is a false moustache.

MeinKraft · 28/09/2023 19:25

First that thread last night about the non binary paw patrol character and now this daft thread, who is starting these? This is not what being gender critical is about. I am GC but I also recognise that trans people exist in this world, there are products that they may well wish to use and I don't take umbrage against companies who wish to use them as models, why would I?! Do I think that trans rights should supersede women's rights - no I do not. Do I think that children should be medicated/operated on/treated as the opposite sex - no. Do I care if some period pants company use a trans model...no.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 28/09/2023 19:30

Exactly. That's why I think people should be expected to use single-sex spaces according to their sex. Obviously there are risks which apply more to women's spaces, but that doesn't mean men should be forced to accept that transmen are men, any more than women should be made to accept that transwomen are women.

Mumof2teens79 · 28/09/2023 19:31

No that's a female transman....born female, takes hormones and had top surgery

Lovemusic82 · 28/09/2023 20:19

You do not have to be on T to grow facial hair, apparently there are creams that you can apply that encourages hair growth (so my dc tells me) also some females are able to grow facial hair due to having PCOS. Not all trans men take T, some can’t because it doesn’t agree with them.

Ladybrrrd · 28/09/2023 20:20

You can always tell eh? 😉

YABVU. Ridiculous. This is exactly what happens though. All this vitriol and bigotry means that trans people are hated on just for existing. Transmen often need period products, transwomen often need bras. Not new, not an opinion, shouldn't be controversial. And frankly if more transmen are seen proudly advertising period products, maybe the dysphoria and discomfort that many of them feel about periods would be less.

Editted to remove pronouns - shan't assume. Good point made above that AFAB people may still grow facial hair naturally.

Snowinjulyy · 28/09/2023 20:23

Hopefully op is a troll. They haven't come back so far.

Bergamotte · 28/09/2023 18:23

Oscar is female.
Even if the actual model no longer gets periods, Modibodi might be using a particularly masculine-looking model so that potential customers who hate that their own periods remind them every month that they're female, find this brand appealing.

Sounds reasonable to me!

Why shouldn’t transmen have some products advertised to them?

This is true too!

One can only hope so as gender dysphoria must be an appalling mental health issue.

Ladybrrrd · 28/09/2023 20:39

Can be, and great that people who suffer from it can see that one can use period products while staying true to themselves, and exercise bodily autonomy. He looks great! (Did a quick confirmation of his pronouns)

That transman must be on testosterone or else their facial hair wouldn't grow. And as it should stop periods too who knows why they chose this model.

Could someone please tell my facial hair to stop growing please as I'm not on T. Thanks.

CrazyHamsterLady · 28/09/2023 20:49

I can’t believe there are people on here saying the OP is being unreasonable. Only women have periods and, as such, they should have a woman advertising them.

They do. The model is a trans man.

PandaExpress · 28/09/2023 20:54

I saw the ad on Facebook and hid it, so not to see it again. I'm actually in the market for some period pants for my DD, but I won't buy from them. My DD is only just coming to terms with getting her period. I'm giving her all the empowering messages about how wonderful and powerful her female body is, I'd like to see that reinforced in the media. This doesn't do that.

Brefugee · 28/09/2023 20:54

tennine · 28/09/2023 18:37

OP you did it wrong.

Trans men are accepted on mumsnet. It's the trans women everyone has a problem with.

Decent try to join the offended but wrong way round.

no. It would be a problem if this were a trans woman advertising period pants (as opposed to incontinence pants) because trans women don't have periods.

Trans men may still have periods, so they might want to use period pants. And that is fine. They use all sorts of diverse bodies in their advertising.

AFAB people

Sex is observed at birth, not assigned, and babies do not have a gender identity. How can a doctor 'assign' a female or male sex to someone? The doctor doesn't decide if you're male or female. Your chromosomes do that before you are born.

Why do people like you feel the need to be so obtuse? Yes, they are aware Sex is observed at birth. AFAB is just terminology. Would you somehow feel better if the acronym was OFAB? I somehow doubt it.
