I’m as Terfy as they come and I actually don’t have a problem with this. It’s clearly a trans man, and they are female so they have periods.

I’d have a much bigger issue if it showed an actual man with a bulge pretending they have a period.

Flickersy · 28/09/2023 18:55

I'm surprised this thread is still here. It's pretty fucking crass to post pictures of someone and ask them to guess what's in their underwear.

Flickersy · 28/09/2023 18:56

Oh and I mustn't forget:

We Can Always Tell.

Bollocks.

That's why 'he' needs period pants. This is where it gets confusing.
Are people comfortable with a 'man' having periods? Or do we misgender him and call him she? Or they?
I don't have answers, it's all beyond me.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 28/09/2023 18:59

OP you did it wrong.Trans men are accepted on mumsnet. It's the trans women everyone has a problem with. Decent try to join the offended but wrong way round.

Transmen are accepted in female spaces, yes. Because they are female. We have a problem with transwomen in female spaces, because they are male.

Blood? And surely that is the point if the public advertisement photo they have posed for.

PhantomUnicorn · 28/09/2023 19:02

@Ilovebudgies among my trans/nb friends, the general consensus is to use 'they' if you're not 100% sure and don't want to misgender them.

But i'm pretty sure the person in the Advert in question is transmale, so likely a he.

Male can also be a noun

No it can't. Look it up in a printed dictionary rather than something cobbled together for the 'net.

^This. I don't have a problem with it because 1) the pants aren't just for periods 2) the model is clearly biologically female and 3) there are plenty of female models on the site.

We Can Always Tell.

Well it was pretty obvious to me.

Thatbloodyhedge · 28/09/2023 19:04

Fucking ridiculous
Try explaining that to a somewhat scared child who has just started her periods when giving options on sanitary protection.
Absolutely unnecessary advertising and it actually makes me cringe

SomeCatFromJapan · 28/09/2023 19:05

We Can Always Tell.

In this case one certainly can.

How do you feel about transmen in male spaces? Or not bothered?

Worried about them.

No, the point of the photo is to advertise underwear.

Not to have their sex guessed at.

Apparently the OP is having some difficulty.

AnSolas · 28/09/2023 19:07

Although it is bad photoshoping the original image would be of a female.

PS I am missing some words from my bingo card but I am sure the non-men cheerleaders will help out.

Sorry but that's wrong. It's an adjective and also a noun, meaning a male person or animal. I'll post a picture from my (paper, non-cobbled-together) O.E.D. if you like.

Better/safer for them to use female spaces IMO.

Blood

(if the company is to be believed, so no need to guess the sex of the model)

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 28/09/2023 19:14

How do you feel about transmen in male spaces? Or not bothered?

Well I'd be more concerned for the safety of the transman in that situation, though it would be their choice to be there. I think that people should be required to use the single-sex spaces designated for their sex, and that where possible and appropriate there should be third spaces.

334bu · 28/09/2023 19:19

How do you feel about transmen in male spaces? Or not bothered?

I am not bothered but transmen obviously are and that's why all transmen offenders are always housed in female prisons and why, when they compete in sports, they always choose to compete with women. They know they are female and vulnerable.

If someone looking like a man due to facial hair is advertising period pants then I think it's going to be a point of discussion. If they were called absorbent pants or something else that didn't relate only to women then that would be different. As only 0.1 % of the population currently consider themselves transmen there are likely to be huge swathes of the country that haven't ever met or even seen a trans man in the flesh.

Some men might not feel comfortable with a transman being in there in the same way a woman might not want a transwoman in female spaces. I'm not sure what the answer is, possibly always having cubicles available that are non gendered.

megletthesecond · 28/09/2023 19:23

That transman must be on testosterone or else their facial hair wouldn't grow. And as it should stop periods too who knows why they chose this model.
