to ask for help with cocktails?

Heading off to visit a friend overseas this evening. He lives in a country where alcohol is legal, but not great quality/cheap/easily obtained. So I'd like to buy some booze at the airport - what combination of spirits could I buy that could easily make a few different cocktails? We can get mixers and fruit juices etc there, but not sure I can rely on a great range. I'm wondering if there's some secret combination of, say, three spirits that gives me a few different options?

Thanks!

It entirely depends on the sort of cocktails you prefer, but for me I'd go with a rum (Pina colada, mojito, daiquiris) and a vodka (bloody Mary, Cosmo with the addition of orange liqueur, white russian).

If you can take more than 2 bottles then maybe a small selection of flavoured schnapps bottles.

I reckon you could manage with just one or two:

I.e. gin cocktails:

Gin Fizz (gin, lemon/grape fruit, optional sugar syrup, tonic)
Ton Collins (gin, lemon juice, sugar syrup, soda water)
Gin and sin (gin, orange juice, lemon, grenadine, ice)
Gin rickey (gin, ice, lime juice, soda water)
gin sour (gin, lemon juice, sugar syrup, optional egg white, optional bitters, ice)

I've also successfully substitutes gin into a Cosmo before, but that would need Cointreau I think.

But if you don't like gin that's going to be a dreadful week!

What about thinking of 2 cocktails you definitely like, then we could tell you what else you could make with those ingredients?

I also like the "my bar" app which you can fill in with what ingredients you have and it gives you cocktails.
