Croydon stabbing

I can't see a post anywhere about this but I'm heartbroken for the family of this poor girl. How can we move forward as a society with this being a reaction to be being spurned or rejected? What can we do to protect our children from the deluge of knife crime, is it worse than it ever was or is it just more widely reported? My heart was in my mouth yesterday seeing the news and knowing I'd just put my own daughter on the bus to school. I've often thought recently about how parents of boys must be so scared every time their son leaves the house and I know girls have been stabbed before but something about this being on the way to school has really hit hard. AIBU to take this one so badly? Can this spur some change and if it doesn't - what will?

The same school year as my dd. I can’t think about it too much, it’s very upsetting, the poor child and her family.

There is a thread. I don't know how to link but it's called "to be profoundly saddened about this".

LittlePlumTree · 28/09/2023 13:26

There’s two threads about this that I’ve seen.

Sorry I couldn't find any when I searched for the key words, I will take a more in depth look.

It was the girl’s best friend, not the girl who rejected the boy. She was trying to defend her friend. It’s horrific.

What I am absolutely furious about ( I am very very sad at the loss of the life of a bright young girl don’t get me wrong)

is the ‘17 charged with murder cannot be named for legal reasons’

well fuck any right he ever had to anonymity, that poor girl didn’t get any privacy as she dies on the pavement.

gave me actual RAGE. It’s a disgrace.

Unfortunately on at least on of the other two threads there are a few posters telling us off for being hysterical and that our anger and rage at certain men and boys in society is unhelpful. A bit of faux empathy ("I say this as a woman who has experienced X Y or Z, but ") type of response when challenged but yeah.

As if they just came along to judge the collective sadness, fear for our kids and want for change.

But yes. What happened this week (and in so many others in different cities) is just heartbreaking.

The growing influence of so called role models like Andrew Tate is fuelling an almost entitlement to toxic misogyny so many young men and boys have.

It's quite frightening

Thanks for your message. I feel the same! I'm a local councillor and raising little girls here. We live down the road from where this happened. You are not alone in feeling such horror, and you are right too. I would be worried if we stopped feeling these things! I would recommend the My Ends community discussions every Friday at the CVA on London Road. They have voluntary groups and local police talking about how they feel and how to make the town safer together. I've found them meaningful. You can find out more about them by emailing [email protected].
