Ridiculous doctor question

Bellavida99 · 28/09/2023 08:16

i don’t really go to the doctors. As a mum of 2 teenagers they’ve had all their vaccinations but probably only been to doctors once each in their lives. Same with me. Apart from smear tests and maternity stuff I haven’t been for decades. DD15 is generally tired and a bit run down lately. We’ve bought her omicron tablets. I am so out of touch with GP appointments I don’t know if this is a valid reason to book an appointment? What would they do - blood tests? Sorry to ask such a ridiculous question

Yes book an appointment and they’ll book her in for a blood test. It is likely iron but could be something else so best to get checked.

Is she eating healthily and exercising ?
are her periods heavy ?

Mothership4two · 28/09/2023 08:20

If you are concerned then of course make her a gp appointment. My surgery tends to start off with telephone consultations.

If your GP is anything like ours, you’ve got a better chance of getting an appointment with a nurse to take blood tests and then speak to the nurse if there’s anything picked up in blood test that needs to be seen by GP, but I would get her seen.

I would add a general vitamin tablet with that. How long has she been tired for? Is it back to school fatigue? How’s her diet generally?
Can you do an e-consult with the gp? They’ll triage it and then call you to talk or to make an appointment. That’s if your surgery offer that. There’s no harm in getting it checked out if you’re worried, a blood test may be needed.

Another good question for teenagers is what time does she go to bed, and what time does she turn off her phone.

Bellavida99 · 28/09/2023 08:24

She eats fairly healthily. Doesn’t eat much meat. She’d rather eat pasta pesto than much protein but eats plenty of cheese and some fish and fruit and veg. Periods are slightly irregular but not heavy.
