To paint expensive ring with nail varnish?

I’ve inherited a ring that means a great deal to me and I’m desperate to wear it. Unfortunately within minutes of having it on I come out in a red rash. Do you think it’s worth trying to paint it in nail varnish? I used to do that to wear costume jewellery

You could try painting just the inside.

I had something once that was specifically for painting earring posts and inside of rings. I don't know what the difference was, but maybe you could Google and see if it's still available.

I think it’s the speed of the reaction that worried me. It came on within minutes. Part of me thinks that may be a too an allergy for the coating to work. In which case I don’t want to ruin the ring
