To not stay in all day

What's the general etiquette around going out with covid nowadays?

I have what would be considered a mild cold but my friend had a spare test (at her request as she has just had it and was conscious about having more time off work) and it turned out to be covid. If i hadnt have tested I wouldn't even think twice about going out as I have a stuffy nose! My children are 2 and 6 months, I can't stay in all day. Can I go for a walk in the park? Can I go to the coffee van? Pop to corner shop to get milk? Sit on outside seating area in starbucks? What's acceptable nowadays?!

I currently have it for the second time (first back in 2021) and I've felt too awful to go anywhere. I'm still doing the school run twice daily because I HAVE to (it's an uphill walk that is nearly killing me so I'm having to stop every couple of mins due to being so weak) but other than that I'm staying in. That being said, if I felt well enough, I'd be out and about as normal now as we are "allowed" and have been for a long time.

Sorry to hear, that's really tough! Especially as I imagine you are exposed to it so often with young kids around. Do you test if you have cold symptoms?

As my sister is extremely ill I have to know if I have any illness so she can get appropriate anti virals as one of her carers I also have to leave the load to my brother so he's doing the support for 3 disabled people. I worked through Covid and this is my second time despite having doctors children through lockdown but they are very strict about PPE and hygiene so we stayed safe this has come from another parent who brought their child with symptoms and only after I went Ill admitted that they had tested positive

I had covid in December last year for the first time. I wasn’t too unwell, just like a bad cold really.

I called into work and was told that the rules at that time were that ‘it’s perfectly fine to come into work if you feel well enough’.

I didn’t because I felt icky, but before covid it had pretty much been expected that if ‘it’s only a cold’ you would dose up on paracetamol and go in.

Imo if you have a symptoms the polite thing to do is to stay at home, wear a mask in case you do have to go out, wash your hands and for goodness sake keep it to yourself.

Most of us will be fine with covid but it’s still very dangerous to some.

I didn’t leave the house until I tested negative because Covid hits me really hard, autoimmune disease that flares up and I’d hate to go out and possibly give Covid to someone. Just because it’s only a cold to you doesn’t mean it hits other people the same way
