Last Monday I had a dentist appointment, Im shitting it! And DH cant have the day off, hes on a warning ... fair enough.

I get put on antibiotics for an absess under my tooth, I dont realise Im allergic to penacillin and get ill, very ill... DH cant have time off...fair enough.

Family take shifts in helping me out (angels!)

Monday - have molar removed, tooth smashed to pieces, bugger wont come out, had to have my gum cut and stitches!! am in agony, I wanted DH there but he cant...

Tuesday, local anestetics worn off am in so much pain, but he cant stay off

and I soldier on, as mums di

Today... he had GP appointment and podiatry appointment one after another,

Hes supposed to do a late,

comes home after the appointments and has rang work telling them Hes not going in

He cant be bothered to do a late!! He can take a day off because he doesnt want to do a late but cant when Im basically in agony with 2 toddlers?!?!

AIBU???

I have loads of empathy re: tooth traumas (as someone who had loads of painful work done last year) but with regards to your DH... If he couldn't take time off last week because he was on a warning, I'd be more concerned about him taking today off for no real reason and risking his job tbh.

Disenchanted · 05/03/2008 13:41

Hes doing a saturday instead so wont get in trouble, but I dont see why he couldnt have had the day time off when I was ill and made up for it when I was better, like he is doing now.

He never mentioned when I was ill he could take time off as long as he made it up again IYKWIM.

In that case, if its that easy for him to swap shifts at short notice, YANBU in expecting him to at least try and swap a shift last week to help you out when you were ill.

bitofadramaqueen · 05/03/2008 13:45

x post! - hope you're going to put your feet up today and leave him to look after the toddlers .

ALMummy · 05/03/2008 13:47

YANBU at all. I had the exact same experience followed also by a condition called dry socket - more painful than childbirth by the way and goes on for weeks, but I digress, I had to stay in bed for two days after this experience and I am no wuss. He should have stayed off and helped you out. My DH did and he is often a real pig but could see how horrendous I felt.

ALMummy · 05/03/2008 13:48

Sorry but also - You poor poor thing. You have all my sympathy.

Disenchanted · 05/03/2008 13:49

My god, whats drysocket?

Im not sure I want to know actully

Mines been a little, ehhh, weepy shall we say?

yuck

You would know if you had it believe me. Weepy is good.

Dry socket is when the blood clot that forms over the open socket comes off and your gum and socket are exposed to the elements and it farkin hurts until the gum is healed - which can take months. It is as grim as it sounds. Double yuck. It took the farkin dentist nearly an hour to get my tooth out and then stitch up etc. It was probably the single most painful experience of my life.

Disenchanted · 05/03/2008 13:55

OOOH,

You poor thing, I was panicking I had it then because mines still very throbby and had (sorry!!!) yellow gunk in it!

Im taking such good care of my teeth from now on! I never ever want to have another out!

Quite right too!!!

Nessamommy · 06/03/2008 02:54

They just don't get it do they? I'm convinced that a husband is nothing more than another child! I would be angry if I were you! I think you should tell him that that isn't fair...he owes you!
