Lost PE kit

My DS has just started year R. On his first day I sent him in with a PE kit all labeled in a bag with his name on in huge letters.

The school policy is that kits stay at school until the end of each half term. (Bit gross but there we go).

He wore his kit the first week but I have been told he had to do PE in his uniform this week because he didn't have his kit. I have explained that it is at school somewhere but it is nowhere to be found.

He is the only child in the class with his name and kits aren't supposed to be taken home anyway.

I could understand if one item got lost but this is the whole kit. Trainers, bag, everything.

I am absolutely fuming and don't feel I should have to fork out for an entire new kit after one use!

Not sure what I can say to school.

Solidarity as I would be fuming too.

Think you should ask again next week in case it takes a while find lost property.

Could ask if the newsletter could ask parents to check if anything has inadvertently made its way home?

Wildthingsrevenge · 24/09/2023 18:11

Offer to check all the pegs after school hours perhaps? This happens more often that you'd imagine. Lots of different reasons and it is annoying for everyone.

LastNightAPandaSavedMyLife · 24/09/2023 18:14

I mean this isn’t the point, but after covid so many schools adopted PE day where they go to school in their PE kit all day. Means it never gets lost! And it’s so much easier than a smelly PE kit being returned every term.

Have you looked in lost property? Have you been into school and had a look everywhere? I would be cross too.

PortalooSunset · 24/09/2023 18:16

Are there other dc with your child's name in other classes? If so have school checked their classrooms?

Spinderellaseverywhere · 24/09/2023 18:39

Solidarity. We lost brand new school jumper on day 1. Also labelled! Surely the bag must be there somewhere? I’d try and get in myself for a look.

Shanda5 · 24/09/2023 19:10

I'll ask to go in. Not in lost property and there are no other children in the year with the same name.

It isn't even a school standard PE bag and as I said above it's personalised with his name in massive letters. There is no way someone could have mistaken the bag as belonging to another child.

I woke up angry in the night thinking about it 😆

Don’t go in fuming whatever you do just go in calmly to help find it

Soberfutures · 24/09/2023 19:12

Does the school have boxes where they are kept? Usually each class will be split into teams/houses and each team will have a box. Has it been put into another teams box by mistake?

SkankingWombat · 24/09/2023 19:20

I'd offer to send in a set of spare (non-uniform) T-shirt, shorts, joggers & hoodie until they find the proper set, reiterating they have been lost in school and explaining replacing them after 1 use is not a possibility. I agree with a PP about offering to go in and look at all the pegs to help locate it. Although there isn't another 'DS' in his year, there may well be others in other year groups. A staff member finding it may well have hung it on yr4's 'DS', not realising there is now also one in YrR.

It's frustrating though. DD1 has already lost 2 water bottles and a pair of PE shorts in the 2.5wks since schools went back. In our case, she's 9yo, so I am laying the blame entirely at her door! They are labelled to within an inch of their lives (she has form!), so I live in hope they will turn up at some point!

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/09/2023 19:28

Sadly normal but obv very annoying

Our wats app group esp in reception has messages every week asking if anyone had taken home a jumper - coat etx

Or reading book etx

Things go missing but they usually do turn up a few weeks later

God know where they have been

Cleaners may find down radiators

But if pe kit stays at school I would have a chat to teacher /office and look in property.

Must be at school somewhere

But agree very annoying

Shanda5 · 25/09/2023 18:00

School obviously didn't fancy me going in to look. Hour after me saying I would go in after class, the bag magically appeared.

I can sleep easy tonight! 😂

Thank you for all the responses and solidarity!
