Every time we each lunch in the staff room at our salon she burps during and after eating. Now obviously everyone burps I’m not saying it’s not normal but she never puts her hand to her mouth or stifles them. Yesterday I was on reception and I could hear her in the staff room when we have clients in. Same when we went to McDonalds for a meet up a few weeks back and she was just like “BUUAAAAAAP! Oops excuse me!” and laughs. It’s so annoying and disgusting.

YABU - I’m being prudish
YANBU - she’s a pig

Better out than in.

FOJN · 24/09/2023 15:45

It's just bad manners. You can burp without making a performance out of it.

MyDogSmellsTerrible · 24/09/2023 15:49

If you don't ask her not to - or at least explain you don't like it, she's not going to stop.

Maybe say something next time?

Snoopystick · 24/09/2023 15:50

Have a napkin handy and waft it back at her

GenXTeaDrinker · 24/09/2023 15:51

I can’t stand it because of the smell. She should put a hand over her mouth.

KaySararSarar · 24/09/2023 15:52

There is seriously no need to be loud!! I have a relative that almost performance burps - vile

EaudeJavel · 24/09/2023 15:53

At work? I would make a formal complain, it's unacceptable in front of clients.

Outside of work? Up to her if she has no manners, I just wouldn't go anywhere near her. I don't care if that makes me "prudish", it's revolting.

ThinWomansBrain · 24/09/2023 15:53

Sounds vile - not that she does it, but appears to think its humorous.
Why on earth do you choose to go out to eat with her though?

IamMaz · 24/09/2023 15:54

I hate it!

OneTwoThreeShake · 24/09/2023 15:55

I often have to burp when I'm eating but I cover my mouth and do it discretely and quietly. There's no need for your friend to be so blasé.

LadyWithLapdog · 24/09/2023 15:56

Also annoying are people who sniff and sniffle on the train. Use a damn tissue. Use your sleeve. I glare, I turn up the volume on my earphones and, if that fails, I get up and move carriages. Autumn is only just starting. There’ll be so much more.

I’m with you, OP. Some is just basic manners.

LunaNorth · 24/09/2023 15:58

“After you with the trough.”

”Excuse my pig, she’s a colleague.”

”I’ve heard that’s polite in some cultures. Not ours, though.”

”Must you?”

”Your dinner smells lovely. What was it?”

”Pack it in, you’re knocking me sick.”

I’ve used all of these at one time or another. I can’t stand belches. I’d rather be in the presence of a fart.

Ikeepmybumcheekshidden · 24/09/2023 16:02

Just stand up and move as soon as she does it. She'll soon get the message

GodspeedJune · 24/09/2023 16:05

Eurgh. That’s really gross. Do you feel able to say something to her? Tell her a customer noticed and commented.

QuizzlyBears · 24/09/2023 16:10

She’s a pig. I have a friend with similar habits and I just walk away. So gross.

WhereYouLeftIt · 24/09/2023 16:11

"Yesterday I was on reception and I could hear her in the staff room when we have clients in."

Tell her exactly that. And don't sugar coat it. Her bad manners are audible to the clients, and could put them off. And yes - ask her why she never puts her hand over her mouth. There's absolutely no need for her to behave like that.

hattie43 · 24/09/2023 16:11

She's a pig .

EaudeJavel · 24/09/2023 16:14

”I’ve heard that’s polite in some cultures. Not ours, though.”

you did make me laugh with that one 😂

fearfuloffluff · 24/09/2023 16:19

I find eating McDonald's grosser than burping tbh

LakeTiticaca · 24/09/2023 16:23

Rude and disgusting in company. Start matching her burps with farts 😉

Ilikeyourdecor · 24/09/2023 16:26

I hate this. I know someone who does it and I looked at them in disgust. They said "it's just a bodily function, what's the problem?". Yes, well, so is pooing but you don't do that in public do you.

EaudeJavel · 24/09/2023 16:39

fearfuloffluff · 24/09/2023 16:19

I find eating McDonald's grosser than burping tbh

of course you do 🙄

Discwriter · 24/09/2023 16:41

Tell her no one wants to hear that! If she gets offended, tell her you and your clients are more offended with the offensive burping!

Floogal · 24/09/2023 17:06

Hate it when people belch and fart during we eating. So gross

moveonwithtime · 24/09/2023 17:20

I know a few people like this ,
One of the worst is my mum mouth wide open BURPS as loud as she can.
Sneezing was louder and never would she cover her mouth for either
Disgusting.

And last one the yawn you could hear her in the next town no need for it.
Forgot the bottom wind did not care where she was it was let out
Im NC with her shes to bloody embarrassing.
Anyone that does any of the above to that loudness i would not be going out with them for dinner. We all do it but in a polite mannered way.
Im not stuck up but cant deal with them sort of behaviours.
Want to act like a pig eat on your own would be my reply.
