School Emails

Fucking hell!

Two schools and the amount of emails I get sent on a daily basis is just crazy!!

What ever happened to a letter in a book bag (80's child)!

I know things have moved on, but even without the letter in a book bag the amount of communication from the school(s) is just ridiculous! Every single day I get at least 3 from each school.

I got told late on Friday that I haven't registered for ANOTHER account (that was sent via email) and that I need it as my reception 4 year old has homework to complete!! 4 year old!!

AIBU?!

I think this is pretty standard now. My dc have used apps for times tables and spellings since reception. There are emails about lunches, trips, homework, notices, pta events and a weekly newsletter. I much prefer to have emails than loads of scruffy paper that my dc has scrunched up in their book bag!

Last week there was a thread complaining about a lack of communication. Schools cannot please everyone. Just read the email or don't and get on with your day.

I wish my kids school would send more emails. We're completely out of the loop on a lot of things and it's very frustrating

So many Class Dojo alerts from one of our schools, argh! I get ones for his class, his autism wing, the school as a whole, but also the ones for just the mainstream bit of the school.

Thankfully the other school sticks to paper.

You're damned if you don't and you're damned if you do!

I like all the emails. It means I'm informed and don't have anything suddenly flung upon me that I didn't know about!

And as for all the sign ups, once you're past reception class it tends to be the same thing so it's not like it's 4 different things every year.

I've just sent out loads of achievement points on my app for kids who have worked hard this week. I hope parents aren't moaning about messages coming through on a weekend!

Its always much busier ime at the start of the school year. The communication calms down after a month or so and then it's the Friday note/newsletter and maybe the odd email with most communication being through Class Dojo or the like.

Letter in a book bag = far too much photocopying, paper use,not to mention time to do it.

Changingplace · 24/09/2023 17:24

I just don’t see why they have to send multiple every day, why can’t the Comms be collated into just one email a day or even a couple a week?

It all seems so ridiculously knee jerk constantly, surely the school office has a calendar of what’s coming up/needs a reminder.

Baneofmyexistence · 24/09/2023 17:27

Problem is no matter how many emails, texts, letters you send there is still a significant proportion of parents who don’t read it the moan they didn’t know about things.

WheresMyChunkz · 24/09/2023 17:30

The school will have hundreds of parents they need to communicate with. Sometimes a blanket 'email everyone' approach is most efficient for them, and if its not for you just scroll on or delete it. Some parents will appreciate that level of communication and some won't. There will be decisions the school makes over the years that you agree with whilst others don't. They can't please everyone all the time so just roll your eyes and move on....

I feel exactly the same way and am trying to come up with a way to make this easier for us all. I'm looking for folks to talk to about how you currently manage it to make sure I get the app I'm designing right. If anyone is willing to talk to me for 30-45 minutes then please let me know! I want to get as many parents involved in the design as possible so I can get it right :D

(I have 2 kids at different schools, infants and juniors and am absolutely useless at emails!!)
