Anyone else things police officers should have indemnity from prosecution whilst on duty. This poor officer followed a suspect that was believed to be armed, stepped out of his vehicle and into the line of fire to protect us.

Now because it turns out he was unarmed he's not only up on a disciplinary but facing a murder charge. Rightly other officers are stepping back so now our armed capacity is falling......terror attack risk right there! Hopefully any jury finds him not guilty!

Fgs no why didn't he wait until there was an actual risk before he shot the bloke

BeethovenNinth · 25/09/2023 06:21

You have to make a split second decision. And lives rest on it. How was he meant to know the guy was unarmed if he was in a vehicle?

it’s incredibly sad but I have huge sympathy with the police here actually

That’s why the police officer who shot Jean Charles de Menezes wasn’t charged - they followed their instructions to the letter. It was just that their instructions were catastrophically wrong.

He wasn't Police, he was special forces. They were watching the wrong flat, then the wrong guy. The shooter lied about his appearance, lied about him having a bulky jacket with wires sticking out of it.

The coroner only allowed the jury a restricted list of questions and refused them the option of an unlawful killing verdict, despite them saying later that that was what they wanted to find was the case.

It was fixed from the off.

Did the policeman follow procedure, yes or no.
That's what really matters here,

Jean Charles was shot by police. He was misidentified by a dick head soldier “Frank” on a placement with the police. Your post directly contradicts the inquest transcript.

No, he was held on the train by two Police officers. The shooter was military, on secondment to the Police. It was all very murky, the Police lied through their teeth about who was who etc.

A witness, who was interviewed on Sky describe de Menezes being pinioned by the two cops, who were shoved out of the way by the killer. The witness, who reported it and said that six or seven shots were fired was described as a liar and a fantasist, by a senior Police spokesman.

You’re sticking with this despite the inquiry stating that Charlie 2 and Charlie 12 had been firearms officers for 16 years when they shot Jean Charles? Just checking if it’s the inquiry that’s wrong? I mean the police lie about everything else but that would be a corker wouldn’t it.

RiderofRohan · 25/09/2023 11:21

If the car wasn't obviously a police car and the man holding the gun wasn't obviously an officer, I too would not have got out of the car.

MissTrip82 · 25/09/2023 11:41

I can’t believe anyone is this stupid.

You can’t seriously think this? Immunity from
prosecution? Come on.

If I were a gang member and been involved in previous crimes including those with firearms or weapons, I certainly wouldn't be getting out of any vehicle even if the car were obviously a police vehicle, as I'd be expecting them to be intending to blow my head off as well, even if I were completely unarmed (and it's also not beyond the realms of impossibility for a fake Police car either).

That's the expectation the Police have created - that they will execute you, criminal or not, especially if you're not white. Maybe he thought that at least he'd have a chance of surviving if he attempted to drive away.
