DP said he would collect our child from an activity that she was doing,it finished at 5pm but after an hour i wandered where they were,I tried to call him but no answer, then 20 mins later he called me back saying he called in to see his parents as he passes their door.,when I said i thought u would let me know he just said i was over reacting but i assumed he would let me know that all was well as obviously i would worry as a mum.he does this alot but maybe he thinks I'm always checking up on him but my point is that i thought he was coming straight home.should he let me know?

It’d be nice of him to let you no, but he doesn’t HAVE to. If you were waiting to eat or something it’d be annoying, but if he does it regularly and it doesn’t disrupt meal or bed times I wouldn’t bother about it.

Do you tell your DP every single place you ever take the DC in their absence? If not then why should they?

I’d expect him to tell me he was going to be over an hour later home with my child than he knew I’d expect him to be. Not because I was “worried” (worried about what?) but because I’d probably have made dinner by then and I’d be wondering where they were, how much longer they’d be etc. It’s not exactly hard to send a text.

After all if you’d spontaneously decided that since they were out you’d go out to the cinema and maybe a bite to eat and he returned to an empty house is he really claiming he’d be perfectly chilled about you just rocking up at 10pm without so much as a message?

Yes of course he should let you know. You live with him. It's just polite and respectful to tell the person you live with that you're going to be an hour later home than expected.
