To be so depressed and anxious about going back to work?

Hi everyone,

I have two sons, an 8 year old and a 4 year old who are both in full time school. I have been a SAHM for about 4 years and have done the odd one or two days supply teaching per week (I am a secondary school teacher). I haven’t worked full time for about 8 years now. Recently we have been affected by the high interest rates and our mortgage has gone up massively…which now means I need to go back to work full time.

I have so much anxiety and am feeling really depressed by the thought of this. It really upsets me that I will be missing so many of my children’s school events that are during the day. (In my opinion primary school is more catered towards SAHMs). I feel I have always been there for them! Everything in the house is always up to date, healthy dinners are always made and children are in a good routine. I feel like my life is about to turn upside down. But I’m trying to think positively and think that at least I’ll have all the holidays with them and with the extra money we will be able to do a lot more as a family, such as days out on the weekends etc.

Luckily my husband can drop the kids to school every morning, my mum can pick them up 3 times a week, and twice a week work will let me leave early so that I can pick them.

How do you full time working mums manage? All advice will be much appreciated.

Thank you 😊
