Would this annoy you? DH related

DH got in from work this morning and brought with him some treats for the kids (age 2, 4 and 6)

A small tin of sour cream and chive pringles each and some sticky doughnuts, cinnamon etc.

They don't eat alot of sweets or crap in general so it's not a regular thing but within 5 minutes the room absolutely stank and still does. Sticky cinnamon hands mixed with sour cream and chive, said hands touching all of the soft furnishings (throws and the sofa). It's absolutely rank and I can still smell it now.

AIBU to be annoyed with him? Would you mind thus?

If you allowed a 2, 4, and 6 year old to eat all that anywhere else except at the table, the only one you should be cross with is yourself.

As I said above I was using the table to sort the clean laundry piles. They had already had their breakfast. I didn't expect him to arrive home with sticky treats..

So is a very rare occurrence

it would have taken a few mins to put the laundry on your bed

Seven99 · 23/09/2023 09:34

OK I'll take it, I'm v unreasonable 😬

Right, and laundry is impossible to move. 🙄Your children could have waited for two minutes while you cleaned off the table.

How dare he arrive home with a nice treat after a night of work!
LTB 😅

KnickerlessParsons · 23/09/2023 09:38

Thanks for the reality check. I didn't voice anything, just silently seethed because my 1 week old new throw now stinks 🤢

So wash it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Do you not have a dining table? My dc are quite feral (teens) but eat at the table....

Your teens eat crips at the dining table??

Right aye, sure they do!

I get it OP. You're ND and it's the unexpected nature of it - people won't understand how stressful that can be, especially combined with the smells and stickiness. I get it.

I’d sure as heck make my teens eat sticky cinnamon buns at the table!!

cariadlet · 23/09/2023 09:41

He wasn't BU to bring home treats.

He was BU to not make sure the children were sitting at the table before handing them out.

You were BU for not moving the laundry.

He wasn't BU for going to bed if he has just got in from a night shift.

YNBU for finding the smell rank. I'm autistic and my strongest sensory sensitivities are to do with smell so I totally get that.

Youspoilus · 23/09/2023 09:21

I would not mind in the slightest

sounds a lovely treat

but very odd they ate them on soft furnishings and not at dining table and then hands washed straight afterwards

Meanwhile, back in your average household......

Well it would appear i am in the majority of not having my toddler wander around the house whilst eating a sticky bun and crisps 🤷‍♀️

FallGall · 23/09/2023 09:42

Just for a mumnset reality check, FYI most people do not eat crisps at a dining dining OP!!!

It's one of those opening posters says it, let's all pile on and make the OP feel bad by agreeing!

Hollyisalrightactuallysorry · 23/09/2023 09:43

@Youspoilus yes she did in follow up posts

Well no. Leaving the cleanup to you was extremely unreasonable. Are you going to bring it up with him? Why did you let him get away with that in the first place? Does he often display Disney dad tendencies?

MariePaperRoses · 23/09/2023 09:46

Teenagers/older children can sit and eat crisps anywhere without making a mess but little children should sit at the table.

Don't be an idiot.

TrailingLoellia · 23/09/2023 09:46

I have packets of wet wipes for just these occasions to wipe off sticky fingers if eating crisps in the living room.

I’d have quickly moved laundry to one end of the table or to the sofa so they could eat the cinnamon things at the table.

Preparation is key!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 23/09/2023 09:47

For future - if the table isn’t clear chuck an old towel on the floor and let them picnic. That keeps the mess in one place and can be chucked in the washing machine.

Unexpected things like this will happen so you need strategies to fall back on.
