There has been me, happily happy that my children don;t have to do the dressing up required by many here for world book day.

HAPPY.

and what does this morning bring already....????

the kiddies putting their lunches in bags, and giving me letters........they need to dress up for book day......TOMOOROW(and the letters were given YESTERDAY

there is nothing like short notice is there!!!!!

On top of all that, DD1 seems to have lost her periods (she had one, and nothing since, which I KNOW is quite normal at this stage and age), but she seems to be rather too liberal at sharing her hormones and making MY periods go arwy.........am now on AGAIN with just a 2/3wk break, and since her first on jan 12th, this is my fourth. maybe MY body is also wrong too, but I fear it is more to do with her, so again, another thing to rant about.

Oh, and DH is not enjoying the hormones.......me AND DD1 AND DD2, and now even DD3......

arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Morning Psycho

I agree about book day, it's a real pain in the arse!!!

I have 5 children, 4 of them will be taking part in book day on Friday and i could really do without the stress

I wouldn't mind but 3 out of the 4 don't want to dress up either!

And as regards the period situation....DD1 and DD2 and I all come on together so we have a week in our house when it's totally unbearable for everyone in the house and they all best take cover!!!

Really feeling too old (only 39)to cope with DD's when they (and I) are due on..... if it's not them stomping up and down the stairs, shouting and crying then it's me doing it

Hope your day gets better

Wotz · 05/03/2008 08:40

Maybe a name change might help you over the next few days, something
ArghhhhhhBookDaySucks

mindingmum · 05/03/2008 08:55

LOL Wotz

emj23 · 05/03/2008 09:48

I totally agree. World Book Day is a major pain in the arse and I hate it. Everyone at DS's school cheats and comes in as people from Disney films usually anyway. The fact you've been given such short notice doesn't help, but we had a letter last week and I still don't know what the hell I can dress him up as.

Riddo · 05/03/2008 09:57

I completely agree. DS wants to be Mike TV but we only have two guns and I won't buy the other 16 to match the books description AAHHHHH

Also same with my dd - shes had one period and I've had three each lasting three weeks. It's not fair - Riddo goes off to rant in a corner

Oh dear, does not sound like fun.

Actually, on second thoughts, I think you should share the cake with your poor DH. I feel sorry for him

Psychomum5 · 05/03/2008 10:26

hmmmmm.....slighty better.....

Flame and me went to do a mutual rant in Waterstones coffee shop. Me for book day/periods/hormones/daughters........(and DH, which he doesn;t deserve), and her for working/CV's/nappies/random stuff (oh, and she gets to share my hormones too), and had a much needed coffee.

then went to peruse the kiddies books for inspirations for my DS1...(DD3 is sorted as we have many tutu's from the girls doing ballet, so she is angelina/general ballet girl from any ballet book).

he wanted to go as batman, only his teacher told him that batman was a film.......it sooooooo isn;t.......batman was a graphic comic BOOK first....she clearly knows nothing (well, not enough about batman at least).

batman is out.....so edmund or peter from narnia maybe??? (no.....that is a film according to DS1......and that is even after I have read narnia to them!). Charlie I think would be easy (charlie and lola)......all he then needs is any clothes, and charlie written on his top.

NO

what does my son want???? Blood????

Oooh, I know not a book he should or even would be reading, but maybe dracula????? (I have vampire stuff from halloween).

not suitable!!

BUT

the lovely lovely waterstones lady came to my rescue....she showed me 'georges marvelous medicine' by 'Roald Dahl', and suggested normal clothes, a wooden spoon, a saucepan, and a HUGE pretend bottle of medicine/poison......... (DS1 will love the poison angle).

I hadn't even thought of Roald Dahl books, and yet we have a box set on the stairs bookshelves.

I am sorted now........and seriously hope that DS1 will be happy too.

He better be, he damn well better be, or the shouting will be heard for miles[eeek].

still not happy with the school tho[grrrrrrrr]

My son is going as George tomorrow! He made his medicine yesterday and it is vile.

Psychomum5 · 05/03/2008 10:36

you have real medicine????

tell me more........

piratecat · 05/03/2008 10:42

my dd is going as six dinner sid, who is a cat.

she is cat mad. apparently she is supposed to go as a 'traditional character', this I found out only yesterday, and I tried to persuade her to change to Puss in Boots (same costume but boots on)but to no avail.

we have had such little info too.

Psychomum5 · 05/03/2008 10:45

We have had little info also. Just a letter stating book day/dressing up.

Altho.....they did say favourite character, which to me could make it easier. not that my son has a fave character beyond batman which has been vetoed, but hey.......for DD3 it makes it simple

Well if it helps at all, I've known for over a week and I still haven't got anything organised. I haven't had any time and absolutely no interest for DCs at all! And I've got PMT too.

As it happens DS#2 is going to wear his tiger costume (as he does for all such events) and take in 'I don't want to go to bed', DD is going to dress up as an evacuee for WWII as they did for history last term and take Lion, the Witch and the W. But DS#1 - not a clue- he has some vague idea of being Gandalf and I have a sort of cloak thing and we picked up a stick when we went for a walk a few weeks ago... but that's it. God I hate things like this So I'll be rushing round like an idiot tonight trying to 'make' stuff as usual.

Psychomum5 · 05/03/2008 12:40

you know...you could make the tiger costume into a lion, and he culd be Aslan as something compleely different.

symapthies for the PMT.....makes it all so much worse doesn;t it!!!!

OP posts:
Psychomum5 · 05/03/2008 19:46

okay........DS is against the George and his marvelour medicine.

he is also against Roy of the Rovers (DH's suggestion), as he will look silly in a footy kit all day long. Now forgive me if I am wrong, but surely that should be every boys dream......yes?????

NO, well, not this boy, which is worrying as footy is his LIFE!!!!!!

also.....

no to 'robinson crusoe'

no to 'the indian under the stairs'

no to 'peter pan'

no to 'treasure island'

no to 'harry potter'

he wants to go as batman......only problem is, he has grown, MASSIVELY, and now his batman costume is rather 'snug'. he will have rather painful 'boy bits' by the end of the day if he tries.

any and all that we now suggest is met with the grumpiest face IN THE WORLD!
