Anyone up who knows what this could be? DS in pain.

DS (4) was fine all day yesterday. We went out for dinner last night and he ate all of his (including beans which may be relevant). We then had our weekly family movie night, DS had some squash and a tiny bit of chocolate whilst watching the movie. Normally on movie night we let the DC stay up later than normal so they usually sleep in aswell.

He's now woken up at 4 this morning crying saying his stomach hurts. I instantly thought its because he ate so much last night so encouraged him to go to the toilet which he did. He did a poop but said his stomach was still hurting.

He's now white as a ghost, feels really cold and clammy to the touch and is saying his tummy hurts so much he can't stand up. I've got him to walk a little bit which he has but he's bent over whilst doing it bless him.

I don't want to take him anywhere yet incase it is just wind from the beans Blush but I would have thought going to the toilet would have helped ease that a bit which it hasn't. Anyone had this with their little ones?

Could it be related to his digestive system in some way? It sounds as though when they put him nil by mouth he got better again but as soon as he's eating it's making the pain worse.

Fingers cross they can give him something to help soon

rainbowstardrops · 24/09/2023 15:59

Oh the poor love. Hope the hospital have said to take him straight back. There's clearly something that isn't resolved

OP, I'd be really really worried that it was appendicitis, and the pain stopped because it burst, and now the temp etc is because of all the toxic stuff released.

I'd be taking him straight back to the ward. I wouldn't wait at all.

This was my concern

AllGoingOnA · 24/09/2023 16:05

Nurse here. Just go back. Don't wait for call back. Just go back now.

ClaudineDeBussy · 24/09/2023 16:09

OP, I am not saying your DS has got appendicitis (as I couldn't possibly know what's wrong with him), but as PP have said, when mine ruptured, I had a short period of slight relief before it got (even) worse. Please take him back.

daydreaming3 · 24/09/2023 16:11

Thanks all, we are back in the ward again now just waiting to see a nurse. Will update shortly

@Iwillpassthanks yes I am on my own as DH needs to stay at home with DD.

Like everyone else I kept checking back here to see how he was doing - OP go back to the hospital. It still could be 'nothing' but if it is something like burst appendix then it's too serious to risk. I'd rather look like an over cautious mum than the alternative - a decision I had to make with my own son during one of the lockdowns. If I hadn't pushed I probably wouldn't have him here thanks to a burst appendix.

You've got this!

Just saw your update - this is excellent mumming. Good luck to your son

ButteredToast9 · 24/09/2023 16:13

Hi OP, sorry to hear your DS is back in hospital again, but keeping fingers crossed for him. Wishing you both the best x

CarrotsAndCheese · 24/09/2023 16:18

So sorry to hear you're back in hospital but it's definitely the best place to be. We're all rooting for him. Hope they can re-test/re-scan for infections, etc as the fever is worrying. Good luck. Hope they diagnose and treat him quickly this time x

Mummyoflittledragon · 24/09/2023 16:21

I’m so sorry to hear your ds is back in hospital. I hope they get to the bottom of it this time. Flowers

Clawdy · 24/09/2023 16:31

Hope all's well.

Pebstk · 24/09/2023 16:32

My son was sent home by hospital and had to take him back next day with appendicitis

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 24/09/2023 16:43

@daydreaming3 has he had tests for diabetes?

daydreaming3 · 24/09/2023 16:47

@GreatBigBeautifulTommorow not that I know of but they did do a prick on his toe yesterday to check sugars which were fine

Sorry to hear you're back to square one. Hope they find out what's causing it and he can be back to 'normal' full time!

Twospaniels · 24/09/2023 17:09

I’ve just caught up with this and am really sorry you’re back in the hospital again and your son is poorly again.
You mentioned wanting to urinate frequently but not much coming out - sorry if I’ve missed something in your posts - but is this as simple (not simple really) as a urine infection?

Twinsandsome · 24/09/2023 17:09

You’ve done the right thing bringing him back. Xx

Misspacorabanne · 24/09/2023 17:10

Just read the thread! Hope he’s ok, you did the right thing taking him back. Hopefully it’s just a virus, that will pass.

Eve223 · 24/09/2023 17:13

Appendicitis. Possibly burst. You've done the right thing taking him back in OP.

jessycake · 24/09/2023 17:20

Many years ago my son spent a couple of days in hospital with this sort of pain and it was mesenteric glands

Sorry about your update but glad he's back on the ward

Lilacanemone · 24/09/2023 17:24

My son, who is non-verbal, had a stomach bug a couple of weeks ago. He was bent double in the evening and didn’t want to stand straight, which had me worried, then the vomiting started and nothing would stay down for most of the night. He was also quite tired and slept a lot for him. The next day, after the vomiting had stopped, he got a temperature which lasted a day and had a reduced appetite for a couple of days. My husband then picked up the bug and complained about how much his stomach hurt. I don’t know if it could be the same thing, but it would probably be even more distressing for a four year old.

PurpleSky09 · 24/09/2023 17:48

Oh no OP Sad hopefully they can get to the bottom of this for you all ASAP.

Esgaroth · 24/09/2023 17:53

My friend's boy (aged 5 at the time) had periods of intense pain and vomiting like that and she took him multiple times to the hospital only for appendicitis to be ruled out and him discharged. The symptoms did subside but came back and he was having these issues with a few weeks between episodes.

Finally he was diagnosed with appendicitis and had his appendix out. It had obviously been the problem all along!
