Trolling website

Not sure if we're allowed to talk about it here, but there was a programme on last night about the other website TL. I didn't watch much of it but it seemed to be about TL and all the so called trolling that goes on.

A couple of Instagram influencers were on talking about his TL has made them feel.

I will admit to reading over there sometimes (don't have an account and have never posted)

Some of the things said about influencers and celebs is absolutely disgusting, but is it really any worse than the Daily Mail comments or the old gossip mags or even the Instagram influencers culture itself?

The definition of troll is important. Is it someone who posts controversial posts, or is it someone who mocks other posters?

On here it's defined as anyone who posts a made up tale, or anyone with a contrary opinion, so rather different from the more widely accepted definition.

...the other website TL.

Other than what? Here?

Aren't there more than 2 websites?

eeyoredebbie · 21/09/2023 14:45

What program was it?

SurprisedWithAHorse · 21/09/2023 14:48

I find it an interesting place. It's merciless towards public figures but very friendly and supportive within itself.

Some influencers do not help themselves. I don't believe being a public figure means there are absolutely no limits to what can be said about you, but some of them have been known to come and join the fray themselves...I don't know what they expected.

holachicatita · 21/09/2023 14:50

What was the program called? What channel? Id love to watch it, I found about about Tattle when the whole Philip schofield thing came out and was fascinated by it all!

Scruffington · 21/09/2023 14:52

are we talking about Tattle?

I find it a mixed bag. Some threads just pull apart all the smoke and mirrors and bullshit that surround various influencers. A good thing in my opinion. Other threads seem to be populated with posters who have an unhealthy obsession about whichever celeb/influencer it is.

Yes it is, because gossip mags and Daily Mail comments (horrible though they are) don't tend to libel people, contact social services about their kids to spite them, encouraging stalking and doxxing of their families and friends etc. The Daily Mail website comments are at least moderated and and gossip mags get checked by lawyers because both the Mail and the mag publishers are fully aware that they can get into legal trouble, whereas TL gets away with it because it's a forum rather than a publication.

There is a lot more to that website than just slagging people off. It's a vile, vile place and somehow people are just supposed to sit there and take all sorts of nasty, damaging and fabricated lies about them and their loved ones.

Exerciseforfun · 21/09/2023 15:43

It was called Olivia Atwood vs The Trolls.

I must admit that when I first came across Tattle I was pretty shocked that it was allowed.

Reading through some of it although some of what is said is needlessly vicious. Some of the influencer culture is no better and TL is just exposing some influencer bullshit.

I actually love Tattle. I only read a couple of threads but they genuinely do expose the vile behaviour of a few people who deserve to be outed. Some of it is a bit vicious yes, but choose the right topic and it's really useful

This is my take on it, too. Some of the threads are simply pointing out the smoke and mirrors and stay around that level with maybe the odd pithy comment, but some threads get incredibly petty and obsessive and some of the personal comments are very cruel. The community are very supportive of each other though.

I don't think influencers should be immune from criticism and the viewing public is entitled to an opinion but I can how some of the threads do tread a fine line.

DietHelp · 21/09/2023 18:47

I LOVE Tattle. Well, the bits I read. I also only follow a couple of threads and from what I’ve seen on those it is about calling out people for their shady behaviour.

I do think that certain people, particularly some influencers, think they live in some sort of echo chamber where unless you agree with them wholeheartedly you’re a troll. I don’t doubt some people go too far but I’ve not seen it so can’t comment really.

I also find that the people on there tend to be nicer to other members than the people on here. Some MN members seem to have a ‘holier than thou’ attitude to Tattle when there’s much worse in AIBU.

ExtraOnions · 21/09/2023 18:48

Tattle called out the terrible behaviour of some public figures long before the main steam media.

They also do a good job of pointing out when “influencers” are being disingenuous (in particular hiding when they have been paid to advertise something)

being an influencer or an Instagrammer doesn’t make you immune from criticism- and none of them have to read it … it’s not like this stuff is being sent to them.

TheLongGloriesOfTheWinterMoon · 21/09/2023 18:50

I only read the Tattle thread about MN.
They have the numerous trolls on here bang to rights.

I’ve just discovered that one and it’s quite funny and spot on too!😂
