To Move to Wales

TheHateIsNotGood · 20/09/2023 20:10

Nothing wrong with Wales except I would feel rather ashamed/guilty for moving there because the main reason is that me and ds are no longer able to 'buy into' the agricultural life that we both are suited and qualified for is because the countryside round here in NW Devon is now so gentrified that 'way' of living is now way out of reach.

My understanding is that Wales does encourage livestock farming and we would rather learn from the local wisdom than try and change anything.

IABU - you're just shifting the problem and Wales don't want you
YANBU - worth considering as Wales could do with some more Young Farmers

If you are confused by perfectly clear speed limit signs you shouldn’t be driving anything.

If only they were clear our council haven't got around to changing a lot of them. 😂😂

GogLais · 22/09/2023 23:46

@cardibach , there's an example of the road signs upthread. Have a look.

Maybe they aren’t going to? Not all 30s are becoming 20. If the sign says 30, it’s 30. So much misinformation - that’s what’s confused you. Just obey the signs.

I think I’ve looked at the whole thread. An example of what about road signs? If it says 20, it’s 20. If it says 30, 40, 50…same

MiniBossFromAus · 23/09/2023 00:00

Sure consider it.

Think carefully about where you will move to. My parents did it (N. Wales) and have discovered that NHS Wales is a shit show of magnificent proportions.

Dad diagnosed with cancer in November. Nice guidelines / standard of care said operate. He waited for 8 months for surgery. Multiple false starts and the worst ever in-hospital post surgery.

Moving requires consideration of many things.

GogLais · 23/09/2023 00:04

@cardibach , there was a photo of a road with 20 mph sign on one side with its partner sign saying 30 mph.

TheHateIsNotGood · 23/09/2023 00:11

Personally, I think getting 'stuck' behind a tractor is a good thing - an unavoidable circumstance where time is best used thinking and looking about and what's around you, or whatever you fancy thinking and looking at. As the old saying goes - less haste, more speed.

@MiniBossFromAus - sorry about your Dad - reliance on any NHS Healthcare is always a bit hit and miss; my Surrey-based DM received great care for her Cancer, futile, expensive treatment really, she quickly died from her 'excellent' treatment via sepsis. C'est la vie.

And here in NW Devon you can't get ANY Dentist, not just no NHS Dentist but NO Dentist at all, even the Privates have closed their waiting lists.

But no matter, just another way to suppress the 'toothless' locals - literally.

Yep we've our fair share of those.

I'm not confused at all. Our highways department on the other hand 🙄

Hecate01 · 23/09/2023 03:09

@cardibach crystal clear 🙄🙈

To Move to Wales
cardibach · 23/09/2023 08:08

Not seen anything like that - an isolated issue doesn’t mean the whole thing is impossible @Hecate01

KimberleyClark · 23/09/2023 08:30

I think it’s a bit pathetic how much fuss is being made about the 20mph limit tbh. As I understand it it’s roads that were previously 30 going down to 20 and not all of them.

@cardibach have you had a sense of humour bypass?

GogLais · 23/09/2023 09:30

Thanks @Hecate01 , that was the one I meant.

No. But thanks for being personally insulting.

PuntoEBasta · 23/09/2023 09:33

I have rarely known such a juxtaposition between a lovely OP and an ill-tempered thread.

Pob lwc, OP.

TroysMammy · 23/09/2023 09:34

cardibach · 23/09/2023 09:31

No. But thanks for being personally insulting.

Hardly, you insulted me first by questioning my driving.

*I have rarely known such a juxtaposition between a lovely OP and an ill-tempered thread.

I know!

An OP sensibly looking for information and gets derailed by the language thing and now the 20mph thing.

I could say, it's just like living here.😁😉🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

GogLais · 23/09/2023 12:14

It's the same on any thread that mentions Wales, IMO because there's usually a pile-on of those who don't understand the culture of the areas that are Welsh-speaking. There's a big difference between somewhere like Shotton or Port Talbot and Blaenau Ffestiniog or Bethesda.

The speed-limit thing is just what people are discussing currently.

There is usually some mention of the poor NHS service, free prescriptions, and that learning some Welsh in schools is mandatory.

cardibach · 23/09/2023 12:45

TroysMammy · 23/09/2023 09:34

Hardly, you insulted me first by questioning my driving.

It wasn’t a personal insult it was an observation about a skill.
And actually, even the allegedly confusing picture isn’t really, is it? When you know there’s been a change it takes about a millisecond of thought to understand the 30 sign was overlooked in the major changes to signage and to drive at 20 which is clearly the new sign 🤷‍♀️
People are making a silly fuss about nothing.

GogLais · 23/09/2023 12:57

The irony.

justasking111 · 23/09/2023 13:34

THE OP is only interested in FARMING!! not politics. So let us get back to that.

There's a shortage of farm workers your son would be welcomed as would you. You just need to prove yourselves to be accepted in the farming community.

GogLais · 23/09/2023 14:31

@justasking111 , the lovely OP who almost certainly would be welcome has decided against. The politics are relevant and the posters who live in the sheep-farming areas know why and the issues they raise, lack of housing being one of them.
