To take 1week off w/ broken foot

Broke my foot last Thursday and was off work Mon-Tue. I work from home but just too tired and wiped out and foot hurts even when trying to sit at my desk. I also seem to have D&V, sorry TMI and unsure why. Want the whole week off but worried about judgement and perception from management and colleagues.

What did others do with foot fracture?

If your foot is too painful for you to work then do not work. Why worry about what your colleagues may think - they do not know how much pain you are in.

Did you ask for a sick note at the hospital - or could you still?

AleenaM · 20/09/2023 09:14

@Lifelessordinary1 Didn't ask for a note and I am not due back in for anything. I can self certify for 7 days can't I ?

Self cert is usually 5 days. If you can't work you can't work.

Are you in a cast? My colleague broke their foot and after a couple of weeks OH went out to the house to see if they could help with adjustments to get them back to work. They provided a different desk and a foot support thing.

Pain can be very debilitating - don't go back if it's stopping you working effectively. You could well need more than a week.

BertieBotts · 20/09/2023 09:23

You'll probably need more than a week off if DH's experience was anything to go by - I think he went over 6 weeks in the end.

Don't rush your healing because of work expectations.

You can self certify for 7 days no need for a sick note, take it if you're in pain. It doesn't matter what your colleagues think; only you know if it's tolerable.

@cocksstrideintheevening I'm in a removable cast, the moon boot ones.
