Group calls on Zoom

I feel really uncomfortable on zoom calls with large groups of people I have never met before. Is that common or am I being unreasonable?

Rather depends what the call is for, and what you are being asked to do

It seems increasingly common to go "off camera" unless you're speaking these days.

I find being on camera when I'm just listening distracting.

Just turn your camera off, go on mute and turn your laptop around if you just need to listen to the host. This seems like an early 2020 concern, we've been doing this stuff for years now. Are you generally an anxious person?

No, not anxious. But I have probably had less than five group zooms in my life so maybe I’m catching up! Late to the party!
