With expiry date of 12 September?

Is it fresh or tinned?

ToWhomItMayEtc · 19/09/2023 20:20

It's fresh from sainsburys

I wouldn't but I am obsessive about dates.

DisforDarkChocolate · 19/09/2023 20:21

Fresh, no.

ToWhomItMayEtc · 19/09/2023 20:22

What's the worst that could happen? (Not a rhetorical question)

OP posts:
Dacadactyl · 19/09/2023 20:22

I'd smell it and dip my finger in it to taste.

If it smelt and tasted ok I'd serve it to my DH and kids but not at a dinner party.

ToWhomItMayEtc · 19/09/2023 20:23

As a chain smoker I don't necessarily trust my sense of smell/taste

I wouldn't, and I'm lax with dates but thats too long, it's a week Confused

Stonebridge · 19/09/2023 20:29

I always judge it based on how long away the expiration date was originally. Like if something always has an expiration date, when purchased, of a month away then going an extra week over before using it is probably neither here nor there but if the original expiration date is a week away on purchase then I wouldn't add another week as you are doubling the product's lifespan which seems unlikely to be safe.

lordloveadog · 19/09/2023 20:39

No too long

ToWhomItMayEtc · 19/09/2023 20:40

FFS this is such a waste, I feel really bad :/

Eat it yourself fine, serve it to someone else - no

AlmostAJillSandwich · 19/09/2023 20:51

It's veg based, i'd eat it. Cream based soups i wouldn't.

Wallywobbles · 19/09/2023 20:55

Id not worry about it.

Wallywobbles · 19/09/2023 20:56

If it tastes funky bin it but otherwise you will be fine.

TomatoSandwiches · 19/09/2023 21:04

Boil it for a good few minutes and go for it.

Superlegs · 19/09/2023 21:09

Is it the best before or use by date.
It’s more likely to be best before if it’s a tin, which just means it may have tasted a bit nicer before that date. Use by is different and would not risk that.
