To hope things might change in the comedy world?

So I know this is the Mail, but it’s an interview with Lucy Beaumont. We have heard from other sources that there are about five being discussed on WhatsApp groups but she mentions up to 15 men that she knows about.

She says about how agents and channels know but keep quiet. Do you think that possibly, with the recent accusations about Brand that channels and agents might start steering away from booking these known men? I understand that at current they are accusations, however if like Lucy says their behaviour is ‘known’ within those circles, do you think they might not be booked, or at least booked less, to avoid future scandals? This is the change I am hoping for personally, but I don’t know if that’s too much to hope for? I may be being naive, but surely channels now would be thinking ‘Shit, we cannot have any more scandals about our acts’ given the recent issues with Brand, Edwards, Schofield etc.

Am I being naive? Or could this be the turn of change at least in the comedy industry?

Lucy Beaumont said she could name '10 to 15' male predators

Comedian Lucy Beaumont says her career was held back by predatory men on the circuit as she confirmed she had been targeted herself.

They get 10-20% commission.

Money talks. People don't care if they are making money ...

But if that were the case then Brand wouldn’t be losing his income all over the place. Surely the potential of a bigger scandal is worse than losing that 10%? If you see what I mean.

It isn't just in comedy, these men lurk in every industry. Wherever there are men basically.

There were some appalling stats about female surgeons being sexually assaulted at work the other week. If it can happen there, it really can happen anywhere.

I am 48, a survivor of multiple sexual assaults from different men in different scenarios including at work, when socialising and in my home, and I am weary of every time these stories come out and it is 'time for change'. I just don't believe it will ever be eradicated.

I am also extremely cynical about this story, not that I don't think he is a repulsive rapist, just that I think the story came out to sell papers and get viewing figures and essentially get a 'big splash' and capture the media for a few days/weeks. All on the back of more women's misery. I don't believe for one second there is any objective to change our culture, it is just to bring down RB because he is such a dick.

I get what you’re saying, and as I say I may just be hopeful. Fellow survivor here so maybe I am just praying too much for change. I just wonder if now this is such a big talking point maybe in the comedy world it will affect change?
