September makes me feel a certain way

I sort of like it…I love autumn, but also it feels strange, quieter & a bit empty.. I feel a bit down this week and very nostalgic

Does anyone else get weird September vibes?

No I get it for November. It’s my favourite month there’s just something about it

Riverlee · 17/09/2023 21:38

I feel sad as the sun m er us over and I haven’t done all the things I thought I would at the beginning.

ShowOfHands · 17/09/2023 21:38

I know what you mean op. I adore Autumn but September also has a vein of nostalgic melancholy running through it. I find myself thinking about my grandparents and sleeping under candlewick in their back bedroom. It's something to do with the drawing in of the evenings, the crispness of change. I find myself yearning for something I can't pinpoint.

SomeoneKeepsMovingMyChair · 17/09/2023 21:39

September makes me super sad cos summer is over and we are all back to work and school. October perks me up a bit, I love autumn (and half term!)

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 17/09/2023 21:40

I love September too, but i know the melancholy feeling.

Unfortunately since the pandemic I’ve had a bit of health anxiety about winter bugs too, which puts me off this time of year. I mean, I’m sure winter bugs have always been around but I never got this anxious about them before.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 17/09/2023 21:42

I think November is a massively underrated month, to the pp who mentioned it.

Proper autumn, and it’s often cold and crisp which is fantastic. Coat and sunglasses weather. It comes with bonfire night, which is amazing, and it’s sort of a “calm before the storm” month, before Christmas.

Birdsonawireoopthere · 17/09/2023 21:42

@ShowOfHands That’s exactly it!
The nostalgic melancholy…I wonder why

I like September. It makes me feel fresh and new (probably as I still have a school age teen and a college kid so have summer holidays and term dates). Like a New Year feeling. Wonder if that will go away when they are not in education anymore?

Vintagecreamandcottagepie · 17/09/2023 21:45

I love September!

I love September and June. Change at just the right time, and entering a new season. Mild and pleasant.

September- Had enough of heat and lack of routine, ready for autumn leaves and snuggling up under blankets.

June- Enough of the cold, ready for sun and beach days

It's the anticipation 🤗Often better than the reality!

Alexahelp · 17/09/2023 21:48

Yes I’ve been very morose the last couple of weeks even though I enjoy Autumn as a season - its the sense that I haven’t seen summer to its full potential I think.

Coffeekisses · 17/09/2023 21:51

Oh completely. September is my most emotive month! It gets worse as my kids get older and back to school is a bigger deal… Really makes me think of new beginnings, shiny shoes, a chill in the air, nostalgia for both my actual childhood and a kind of all-American quilt-making, pumpkin-patch, rocking chair childhood only seen in illustrations of teddy bears knitting and baking and putting on mop caps at bedtime (I am not American. Or a teddy bear.). I always think of that feeling you get walking home as it turns dark, lights are on in other peoples houses and their chimneys are smoking cozily… Lovely. Also there’s this weird sadness because the year is moving towards its end, but we’re in the run-up to all my favourite things (Christmas, Halloween - I’m not as excited about Easter or summer, weirdly!). And if those things are coming up… they will also be over soon too 😔 Bah. Anyway, time to start getting all hygge and planning my Christmas craft projects!

Annaishere · 17/09/2023 21:57

November I think it’s the crispness and scent in the air and it just has this quality of nostalgia for me. I don’t know why

theduchessofspork · 17/09/2023 22:02

Yeah I think it’s the back to school vibe

soggy

and

sad

but

no uniform - you can at least as an adult look forward to autumn clothes. It’s the only think about other seasons that is better than summer

theduchessofspork · 17/09/2023 22:02

THING

Sheraprincessofflower · 17/09/2023 22:03

September and October make me feel melancholy and like I could be a character from the more despondent songs on Blur’s Great Escape album. It’s a very weird and particular feeling.

theduchessofspork · 17/09/2023 22:05

… As well as clothes it’s good for new regimes and beginnings I think, I like the idea of emerging from a chrysalis in April somewhat improved.

It’s a much better New Year time than January. Mid Winter is appalling and no time to start anything.

WhoStoleYourHighHorse · 17/09/2023 22:11

Huge autumn fan here - love the colours, the clothes, the crisp weather. I try not to buy too many summer clothes - so much happier in autumn colours. Also acts as a kind of restart/reset for me - maybe because I work in education.

elm26 · 17/09/2023 22:12

Wow I didn't know this was a common feeling about September!

I was driving my dog to my Dad's the other night before we left for holiday and it was a bit cold, it was dark and the leaves have started to turn colour here and I felt really tearful whilst driving! Really strange.

CClaire · 17/09/2023 22:15

I always get this with Autumn approaching, though it’s got steadily better over the last 10 or so years since I realised - and then eventually managed to remember - that I actually love Autumn. And now that we’ve got kids, there’s a lot more to look forward to in winter too, so I don’t usually get fed up until Spring fails to appear.

TinaTeaspoons · 17/09/2023 22:18

It's been so hot this September that I haven't really felt like that. Still feel like autumn is going to race by because of the heatwaves we had this month. That's what makes me sad as autumn is my favourite time of year.

Spudlover · 17/09/2023 22:20

I love September, everything feels clean and new, better than New Year. It’s definitely a hark back to school, but in a positive way.

Seriously79 · 17/09/2023 22:20

Yes! I'm always quite emotional in September, I see it almost like New Year.

Autumn is my most favourite season. If the weather is nice we are 'hanging onto Summer' and when the air freshens and the leaves start to change colour, it makes me excited for winter and Christmas.

TheWelshposter · 17/09/2023 22:27

Other posters have written it far better than I could, but I get very sad and nostalgic in September. It doesn't help that my favourite time of year is April/May/June and it just seems so far away.

BitOutOfPractice · 17/09/2023 22:29

It’s the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness innit?
