To think I’m dying? Any doctors around? šŸ™

Got worse over a couple of weeks. Tiredness. Squishy tummy and no appetite. Aches and pains. Buzzing sensations all over. Back and neck pain. Joints hurting and clicking. Muscles twitching and hurting. Feeling wobbly. Now struggling to walk because of muscle burning pains. Anxiety and panic.

GP is totally unconcerned. Checked me over and said I haven’t lost muscle strength, range of movement, tone or sensation. Took some blood to test for vitamin deficiencies (I often have these but never felt like this before). Told me to address my anxiety and referred me to the psychiatric nurse.

I’m hysterical. Imagining I have some awful disease. How can the GP not be worried when I have such severe symptoms? Please help me if you can.

To be fair they have a point if you're already anxious about your symptoms it will make them a lot worse.

If neuro exam etc is okay, just wait for your bloods and please don't google.

RamsesTheChub · 17/09/2023 16:20

Reading your post there's a fair chance it is related to your anxiety, so perhaps try to trust your GP in this instance. If in doubt though, any chance you can get a second opinion?

Honestly, try not to worry, it won't make a positive difference.

Sunshineguy · 17/09/2023 16:21

Sorry to hear you're not doing well. Current evidence shows a significant proportion of people who catch Covid develop Long COVID and the symptoms you've described are a strong match. It could be a number of other things, but given how much Covid is going around, this should be considered.

I hope you can get to the bottom of what's causing your symptoms and get the help you need.

Post-COVID Conditions

Some people experience new or ongoing symptoms lasting weeks or months.

Anxiety can make you feel ill. I actually get an anxiety cough! Have you had blood test results back? It may be as simple as low iron, b12 etc. It really really doesn’t sound like you’re dying but definitely sounds like you have health anxiety…I understand, I had a 12 week cbt course for it which helped.

Floopyfloop · 17/09/2023 16:25

Are you peri menopausal?

cocksstrideintheevening · 17/09/2023 16:26

Are you medicated for your anxiety?

YellowStickerDateNight · 17/09/2023 16:28

Menopause ?

Garret · 17/09/2023 16:30

I asked about peri - doctor said no, still regular and none of the major symptoms.

I have propranolol for anxiety. Doctor thinks I’m too anxious, but I think it’s normal to be this anxious when you suddenly can’t walk.

I haven’t had Covid recently to my knowledge.

Have you suddenly become a lot less active over the last couple of weeks, due to how you've been feeling physically?

If so, and you say you are struggling to walk now, it sounds like everything might have gone a bit stiff and rusty. Could you look at some light stretching exercises online that you can follow at home?

Calmdown14 · 17/09/2023 16:37

What are your iron levels and ferritin like?

Anaemia can cause a lot of the symptoms you describe. It can give you a racing heart feeling and pounding sensation in your ears/head

Garret · 17/09/2023 16:42

I’ve been on iron pills for about six weeks because my ferritin was very low. So I’d already been taking iron for a while when these symptoms kicked in.

Yes I’ve become less active because my arms and legs are aching and buzzing. Even stopped playing the piano because my hands won’t work properly due to arm muscles hurting.

Paintingonthewall12 · 17/09/2023 16:45

My muscles ache and I feel awful with low iron. Have they got you on 3 tablets a day?
After 3 months you should go back and see if the levels have risen if not they might opt for an iron infusion.

Garret · 17/09/2023 16:48

One iron pill per day. When I started taking them I felt ok just a bit tired. After taking them for a month I got these crippling symptoms. Symptoms getting worse would suggest my iron levels has got worse not better??

WeeOrcadian · 17/09/2023 16:50

I was prescribed ferritin and was given 3 x per day - 1 x per day seems low

But please consider that anxiety can manifest into physical symptoms and make things feel much worse

MyCatHasStaff · 17/09/2023 16:50

Have you tried magnesium? It does sound like anxiety (I have had similar), but I found magnesium works very quickly.

Bunnyhair · 17/09/2023 16:51

This is what I feel like most of the time. Plus migraines every 3 weeks and chest pains every time I lie down and super low blood pressure. GP assures me all tests are normal and this is as good as life gets when you’re my age (47). šŸ˜•

Icannoteven · 17/09/2023 16:58

Have you had your calcium levels tested? All of your symptoms sound like hypercalcaemia, which has a number of causes (some serious, some not serious).

It pisses me off when GP’s blame anxiety just because they haven’t found the answer yet. I bet they do this a lot more often to women than men.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 17/09/2023 17:05

Clicking joints aren't symptoms of dying.

Might be a symptom of being hypermobile and/or with poor muscle tone, as can back, neck and muscle pain/burning, along with feeling wobbly and tired with a squishy tummy. But no, never of dying.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 17/09/2023 17:06

It sounds like anxiety. Are you taking the propanol? Do you have support in real life from people who are aware that you have anxiety and may express this physically?

KnowledgeableMomma · 17/09/2023 17:09

Can you go see another doctor to get a second opinion? If this second doctor finds a reason, brilliant. If a second look reveals the same as first doc says, then you can rest a little easier knowing anxiety is the cause and work from there to fix it.

good point re: hypermobility. Connective tissue disorders can affect all sorts of systems in the body you might not think it would - circulation, digestion, etc.

alexdgr8 · 17/09/2023 17:14

have you tried seeing all the available docs in the practice.
i find locums are often more open minded.
or could you pay to see someone privately ?

MinnieMouse0 · 17/09/2023 17:16

Ask for your B12 to be checked if it hasn’t been already. Hope you feel better soon.

DustyLee123 · 17/09/2023 17:16

How old are you ?

alexdgr8 · 17/09/2023 17:16

but to be honest, the title of your thread does sound a bit hysterical.
you have symptoms and health worries, but did you really think that equates to dying ?
have you never seen real serious illness up close. ?
