Timing of interview is really unfortunate

My mum is ill with cancer, and the outlook is not the best. Latest prelim scans show some spread into other places - the full results and confirmation is coming on Wednesday. We're likely going to hear about a prognosis and palliative care plan. I live on the other side of the country to her, but am looking to move to be near her ASAP, and have found a dream job close by. I was over the moon when I got invited to interview for the job this week.

Unfortunately the interview is scheduled the day after the scan results consultation. It's likely I'm going to be all over the place emotionally. Is there anything I can do to put myself in the best position possible for this interview? I really don't want to screw it up - jobs of this kind in my field are not easy to come by where my mum lives. TIA

So sorry to hear about your mum. It sounds like a difficult road ahead. If moving nearer to her and having a job that suits is the right decision for you then I think the only thing you can do is prepare and prepare for the interview before you go to the appointment with your mum, so you already have it clear in your head. Then the night before make sure you get enough sleep (sleeping tablet if necessary) and try and push through.
The only other option would be to call the company and ask if you can delay the interview for a day or two.

Could you tell them you have a hospital appointment t that day and is it possible to reschedule a couple of days later?
