She sounds like a manipulative little moo with some serious growing up ahead of her. I wouldn't sack her, I would instead give her enough work that is just at the edge of her level of competence to stop her from:
A) having time to play stupid mind games
b) give her insights into what life is like when you have responsibilities in the workplace

Also I would try to work out who else is gossiping and rumour-mongering and make sure they do not have any spare time.

All these women sound a little underemployed tbh.

Read this thread yesterday. Really hope this is sorted out in the op's favour. Can't bear people who play silly games like the girl the op is describing.

You know you behaved badly, nuff said. Could you email her a carefully worded email? Very carefully worded, that is, as these things can come back to bite you in the arse.

She sounds like an utter wanker. I have no tolerance for 'boo hoo poor ickle me' behaviour, how old is she, five? I'd've told her to belt the feck up, so I admire your restraint.

i wouldn't do anything further. yes, your initial reaction was unprofessional, but you have conducted yourself professionally from then on. she is totally out of line. clearly why the atmosphere is so tense and bitchy.

you've stated your case to her manager, i'd be tempted to talk to your boss in case the wench goes to hr, and leave it at that.

sorry for your loss this is all rather a lot to deal with.
