To enter the supermarket with my cat in the carrier

We're going to the vet to get his annual vaccinations and I have to go to the supermarket next door to buy two things quickly. I don't know if they will let me get in with the cat in his carrier.

Have you got a really large bag for life? Put it in a trolley, open it up, put in cat in carrier (obvs make sure there is air circulation). Stroll in. Use self check out. No one would realise what you've done until you've paid (if they do at all) and if they do realise they will tell you to leave, which is what you will be doing anyway!

Toddlerteaplease · 15/09/2023 21:37

Why not. Since bloody dogs are allowed everywhere these days.

My local Asda has a cat that comes inside the store and makes himself at home. He's a right little local celebrity!

Love this!

My local Tesco has a cat, too. She mostly stays in the car park and the Timpsons shop just outside, as she gets chased out of the shop. Have also seen her in the barbers which is inside Tesco. She even has her own FB page.

Cat isnot on a lead but is in a carrier, so wont be spitting on the food.

bridgetreilly · 15/09/2023 21:55

No, no, no, no, no. No one should be taking any pet animals into shops at all. Assistance dogs, fine. Everything else stays outside or at home.

Candlelight34 · 15/09/2023 22:01

People dirtier than cats.
Cats very clean.

xogossipgirlxo · 15/09/2023 22:01

I did it once, asked if it’s ok when I entered the store and even one lady let me go first in the queue :D

You’re fighting a lost battle!! 😂

Dogs are already welcome at my local shops and cafes, including major supermarkets and big clothing stores.

Candlelight34 · 15/09/2023 22:02

Lots of supermarkets have rodents.
They need cats.

Totallyterrific · 15/09/2023 22:07

Assuming you are going by car, why not just leave him in the carrier in the car, parked in the shade (windows down a bit) for the 10 minutes it takes you to nip in and out of the shop?

ThinWomansBrain · 15/09/2023 22:16

I take my cat in occasionally - she is in her backpack carrier, generally sits down so she doesn't even have her face near the mesh.
I wouldn't do it for a big shop, but if I want to pick up a bottle of water or sandwich on the way to or from the community garden.
No one's ever complained, one of the security guards says hello to her.

I can't see there's any more allergens with her inside than if I walked in with the empty back pack.

We used to have a tiny Waterstones in the park nearby (adjoining a university) My previous cat was always made welcome in there too - just on her lead, not in a carry bag, they kept treats for her.

Ibizafun · 15/09/2023 22:21

I really wouldn't- your cat would be terrified in that environment. And don't think of leaving outside either as chances are someone will take it.

I want to see this cat now!

My local supermarket has a cat as well. He's also has a bit of fame locally. A different local supermarket have some ducks that keep trying to get in and waddle round.

Mangofandangoo · 15/09/2023 22:44

Regardless of the hygiene issues, this would be terrifying for your cat.

coolkatt · 15/09/2023 22:51

ffs think about ur poor cat first, take ur cat home to chill out after the vet visit which stresses them out and return to do ur shopping happily assured ur cat is in a safe place and u don't need to rush or stress him out even further.
as for those saying ask someone to look after him for a minute?? really??? i hope y'all don't have animals under your care.

autienotnaughty · 15/09/2023 22:58

TheBarbieEffect · 15/09/2023 15:53

Absolutely not. It’s a animal and has no place in a supermarket amongst food.

So entitled.

When I worked at Asda a lot of mice and birds lived in the supermarket they use to come out at night when it was quieter

What hygiene issues will be caused by a cat in a carrier?

Cutestfeet · 15/09/2023 23:38

Why not people moan to much

Catsmere · 16/09/2023 06:01

Absolutely no to leaving your cat in the car. Cars get so hot and even in the shade and with windows open animals can be dead in minutes - and you don't know how long it would really take if there was a long queue, or some other issue. Honestly, why would your vet clinic refuse to let you leave him there while you did the errand? He'd be in his carrier out the back.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 16/09/2023 06:22

Mice and birds in a supermarket? Disgusting.

TheShinmeister · 16/09/2023 11:34

Love it! So glad he had his trip round the supermarket x

GalileoHumpkins · 16/09/2023 11:50

I hope he was allowed to browse the cat food aisle and choose a treat.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/09/2023 15:36

Ah that is a lovely solid cat. Even his paw is sturdy!

GreekDogRescue · 16/09/2023 19:12

ohdamnitjanet · 15/09/2023 18:30

If I worked in a supermarket and someone tried to bring in a cat I’d stop them without a seconds thought.

Shops are currently dealing with an epidemic of entitled shoplifters who get away with it and yet your only concern is someone unobtrusively and quickly taking in a cat in an anonymous carrier for a few minutes.
you need to recalibrate your priorities
