Panicking

Received an 'order to recover penalty charge at traffic enformefemecentre at County Court business centre'

Didn't know it was outstanding, scared I've massively screwed up my credit rating

I'd call them now, and hopefully you can pay it before it goes to court and it won't affect your credit!

First off, you'll want to check that it's a real one. Some scammers send fake ones round that look really convincing. That might explain why you haven't had any previous correspondence from them.

I don't think its fake, its from a council

I just don't know if it's a ccj or not and I'm panicking about it

On hold to citizens advice but been waiting some time

I can't see evidence of a ccj through my credit score details on my bank app

Take a picture to show us and redact your personal details if you can. There are a few parking scams going online at the moment. Pretty sure there is no such thing as a parking enforcement centre.

Contact the council directly and ask them about it. Also ask why you haven't had any letters from them previously about the matter as that is very wrong.

WoWWomblingFree · 14/09/2023 12:12

OK I spoke to someone at trafficpenaltytribunal.gov.uk who has reassured me it's NOT a ccj

I'm so relieved I want to cry

Apparently non payment of fines across the country go to this place

Thank you for responding to me, helped me feel less alone while I waited to speak to someone!

I had the initial fine letter, I remember that but nothing since and it was 2 years ago when I got confused on a one way system in a busy town I was visiting for the first time

If you received the original fine why didn't you either pay it or challenge it. Fines don't just disappear if you don't pay them. Pay it quickly.

Can you go back through your bank statements to see if you have?

I checked, thank you. I always pay my bills on time and don't know why I missed the fine in the first place. I don't get why they sent it straight to a court because I thought if you missed a fine you got a letter telling you that the fine and now gone up but I guess not. It just really panicked me, been going through a really tough time and was so worried I'd accidentally screwed up my future

I really appreciate the calm, supportive replies, was just what I needed to hear

What impacts your credit is an unsatisfied judgement (obvs if it was for a credit agreement you would have defaulted and it would already be an issue)
You can't have a judgement against you unless you were served papers.
Contact them and reach an agreement.
