For me, at the moment it's that every single one of our police forces needs an urgent outside investigation.
Women are having more of their rights and safety stripped away every day.

... and does correct spelling really need pointing out? Asks the person too tired to sleep ot type correctly 😁

That the editing of press clips to make people look/sound bad is happening. These clips go viral and people believe then without researching past headlines and sound bites. Reality is being manipulated on both sides.

maltesermagnet · 14/09/2023 04:48

That if we continue to undervalue and pay our early years staff so poorly that more and more settings will close and we will have a child care crisis.

There's a massive shortage of qualified staff now going into the roles (though quite a few disillusioned teachers are) and those that do don't stay for long because they get more money and better working conditions by working in Tesco.

stayathomer · 14/09/2023 05:39

Really? That’s your first message?

Tweedledeee · 14/09/2023 05:48

Our journalists and newspaper editors have done so much to trash reasoned debate and discussion and fed the population screaming headlines (include social media in this too) and we have ended up divided and seriously I’ll-informed about the country -hence eg brexit, and that now we have different and more informative news info coming through podcasts where two sides of an argument are looked at, we might actually get some sensible decision making by the gov (whichever it is) and the population .

I’m really shocked that currently that they situation in Libya is not receiving more Uk press coverage. Up to 20,000 feared dead in floods.

orangegato · 14/09/2023 07:38

That the pensions system will fucking explode as the government have counted on pensioners owning their own homes. Home ownership of the older generation was just a given.

Home ownership is now out of reach for a lot of people so good luck paying to house millions of pensioners whose rent is more than their pension…

The time bomb of damage that gender identity affirmation is going to have on young people in a few years time. They’ll realise they were lied to by adults they were supposed to trust, but it’ll be too late to prevent irrevocable harm and trauma.

ThIs

I know these two things are boring and we all "know" it, but hardly anyone acts like they know it -

Climate change is going to completely destroy the world as we know it, and it could be mitigated

Two women a week are killed by a current or former partner, in England & Wales

Bonus one: you don't need to buy plastic novelty tat. No-one wants it, just look at what fills the charity shops.

That societies acceptance/ reverence of pornography and the sex trade is a key factor or often the root of many many problems and ills of the world today, from how we feel about ourselves to how we view others, not to mention the wider industry of human trafficking and child abuse.

TodayInahurry · 14/09/2023 07:58

The trans obsession is pure evil and so is the way it is inflicted on children as if it is fact. The worst thing affecting children is the easy availability of pornography on-line, even very young children are exposed to it from friends and older children.

The normalisation of drug taking, article in The Times yesterday about students taking ketamine because it is cheap and taking it regularly. It is the main cause of drug deaths at university but even more frightening is that many young people have their bladders destroyed by it. To the point they have to have them removed and use a bag for the rest of their lives.

DingDongDenny · 14/09/2023 08:04

That social care is in absolute crisis and barely exists any more, combined with an ageing population, most of us will have to take on caring roles at some point, with no support. It's only when your parent gets dementia, has a fall, or a family member is disabled, or you have a child with additional needs that you realise there is no help because the system is fucked

VestaTilley · 14/09/2023 08:08

That surrogacy is being lined up to be liberalized - Ruth Hunt talked about how she’s going to push for it in the House of Lords in an Attitude magazine article last week.

If you don’t want that to happen please email your MP.

The Law Commission are proposing women never be listed on the birth certificate of their own baby (even when their own egg is used), that legal parentage goes to the commissioning parents at birth, reduces the mother’s time to change her mind, allows open advertising for surrogate mothers, still allows a generous expenses regime which incentivises poor women, and suggests min ages of just 21 for surrogate mothers and 18 for commissioning parents.

Surrogacy Concern and Stop Surrogacy Now UK are on Twitter and have more info if you’re interested.

NotTerfNorCis · 14/09/2023 08:12

Long term underfunding and neglect of public services that is slowly destroying them to a point beyond recovery. I can't understand why people vote for these social vandals.

D3LAN3Y · 14/09/2023 08:19

"Almost one in three female surgeons working in the NHS have been sexually assaulted in the past five years, according to a survey described as a “#MeToo movement for surgery"

This makes me feel fucking ill and it seems not enough people know.
It seems women aren't safe anywhere and it's scary.
I first read about it in the metro newspaper but its been covered in the guardian, daily mail and bbc news 😔

That the gcse and A level exam assessment system is unreliable and very very broken - albeit in some subjects much more than others. That many schools and teachers don't know how to check and challenge the results that kids get with an informed eye. Many may not have have the time or inclination to do it anyway as they are overworked and haven't been trained how to. That many competent educationalists understandably don't want to be examiners due to time commitments, intense window of work and poor pay and that we have, as a result, many many markers that are incompetent and exam boards that want to just brush over it and cover things up to keep things' as they have always been'. That coursework in so many schools is now unreliable, for so many reasons, so this isn't a realistic replacement to marked exams because teachers aren't trained in groups by exam boards any more and recruitment to the professional including management positions is difficult, so standards aren't maintained and checked in schools. The great competent schools do it well. The weak departments do it appallingly. The level of support different students gets varies so greatly between schools that it is unfair. I know this. It makes me so sad and worried.

To add to this, that the vast vast majority of unpaid carers of very elderly people are their adult children and the Government relies entirely on this to ensure practicalities like shopping, taking them to doctors/hospitals, keeping on top of reminding mum/dad to take medication, etc are taken care of. Without this huge army of unpaid help, hospitals would be full of elderly people.

however around 20% of people over 50 Now don’t have any children & no one but most especially the Government understands the impact this will have.

EasternStandard · 14/09/2023 09:28

To add not damaging impact of just gender ideology on children but the sleep walk into authoritarianism. Laws on making misgendering a hate crime are looming.

People are already cancelled, and some write apologies not far from re education statements

Absolutely. It's definitely not just a cold, and with people getting multiple infections per year now, and each infection being a roll of the dice whether you get Long Covid or not, I foresee a Long Covid epidemic.

Istanbulnotconstantinople72 · 14/09/2023 10:12

I would tell people that trans people aren't the enemy - it's the cis men who abuse the rules to hurt women that we should be angry with. Not with each other. I really don't understand why it's a trans people vs women argument while cis men appear to be getting away scot free.

dnasurprise · 14/09/2023 10:13

Not just surrogacy but donor conception in general. Its increasingly common due to older parents, single people and gay couples wishing to have children. Some people go about it thoughtfully and bare in mind the potential distress of the child not knowing half of their biological identity but others don't. There is lots out there about the stress of adoption, the need for adopted children to know they are adopted and potentially have a relationship with their bio parents with donor conception the child's potential and understandable interest in the other side of their family is often swept under the carpet.
