Imagine you have a neighbour in your street who you've spoken to before about burning god knows what (I suspect plastic), you see the smoke from the chimney, you can even smell it in your house with the windows ajar, it's noxious and acrid. The time you spoke to her and asked her what she was burning she lied to your face and said it was just coal. You mentioned your young children playing in the street having to breathe it in. This neighbour persists to burn god knows what every month or so.
Admittedly it could be worse, it's just one person, I guess they don't produce that much waste. Anyhow the lying to me has really pissed me off, the disregard for their neighbours, in particular young children and the environment and after another burn resulting in having to shut the windows, I reported them to environmental health.
So my wife is 'furious' with me as she said she's 'a nice old lady' and knows her family and basically 'doesn't want any agro' and that housing estate living isn't for her as she finds this kind of thing stressful.
I'm going to make sure it's an anonymous complaint tomorrow anyway.
YANBU - you politely told her, she lied, she needs to comprehend what she's doing and you were right to flag it.
YABU - they don't burn waste that often, just live with it. What's reporting it going to do anyway. You don't want to fall out with people.
