Interview tomorrow and have a technical question about Teams!

Hey, good evening all.

So I have an interview tomorrow morning which requires me to do a presentation on Microsoft Teams….

I was planning to share “screen only” to have my presentation showing to the panel, and have my points I plan to say/elaborate on on a word document (that they obviously can’t see as it’s screen only).

However, I’ve just realised that I’m not sure if I can do this, because as I go through the presentation it’ll need to be full screen right so I can show it to them right? So I’m wondering if I’ll actually be able to come out and see my Microsoft Word doc?!
Slightly panicking now as I don’t know how to navigate this please help?
do I select “presenter view” instead?

I’ve also seen there’s an option where I can actually have my notes on PowerPoint and by presenting it on “presenter view” I can see my notes alongside the slide whereas they can’t?

Please help if you’ve use teams in this way, I’ve never had to present whilst needing to refer to extra notes to support the main msg of the slide , thank you x

Sorry I mean “window” only not screen, I got this the wrong way round in my post originally

i mean I’ll be sharing “window” so as to show just the presentation, I’ve done a test and I can’t see Microsoft word as I have the presentation playing :/

When you go to “share” use PowerPoint Live instead of share screen - you can see your speaker notes, but they can’t

coxesorangepippin · 12/09/2023 21:02

Can you have the Word doc on another screen?? So only share the screen with the PowerPoint presentation?

(Do you have two screens??)

SwedishEdith · 12/09/2023 21:06

If you don't have another screen, could you access the notes from your phone and read from them?

Coulddowithanap · 12/09/2023 21:07

Can you print your notes out?

Marmalade71 · 12/09/2023 21:07

It's fine if you have 2 screens but if you only have one you have to choose between viewing what they can see - the presentation- or your notes. So as long as you choose the right screen to share - they won't see your notes, but the question is whether you can see your notes and see what they can see.

Basically you need to either have a printer to print your notes or a second screen.

KateyCuckoo · 12/09/2023 21:07

Print them?

Hey thank you, I think this will have to be the option I use now, I was originally hoping that by just sharing my PowerPoint window, I could still see my Microsoft doc, but it doesn’t seem I can unfortunately from when I tested it , so I’ll add the notes on tonight and hope for the best!

Hey, no printer. Yeah I have tested and I can’t view my document at the same time as I present but there’s an option I’ve discovered where you can add notes the the PowerPoint and they can’t see them as you present

Can you do a trial run with a friend or family member tonight to give you the confidence for tomorrow? I did that when delivering my first external presentation when it was new to me. Might help with any nerves.

animaniac · 12/09/2023 21:18

As another poster said, select to share via PowerPoint Live, not via screen share. You can practice doing this by starting a meeting with yourself and there you will be able to see where it is beforehand.
in the PowerPoint Live mode, the viewers will see your slides, but not your notes, so this was you can just use the notes area of PowerPoint underneath the slides and have your prompts/scripts right there

user76541055773 · 12/09/2023 21:19

You should be able to start the PowerPoint presentation, “share window” of the presentation (you’ll see a little thumbnail of it when you select it, make sure it’s the presented slide you pick, not the slide-editor), and then tab to your word document. Viewers will see the PowerPoint not the word document.

HOWEVER this gets difficult if you have multiple sides because you will need to tab back to the PowerPoint to move to the next slide.

parietal · 12/09/2023 21:20

If you can, practice and work out which Teams mode will let you see the faces of the panel as you speak. You'll give a much better more engaging talk if you can see them too.

You can easily do this where the PowerPoint doesn’t go full screen when in slideshow. Go into the PowerPoint deck you’re going to share, select ‘set up slideshow’ from the menu bar at the top of PowerPoint, then select ‘browsed by an individual window’. Now when you put that slide deck on slide show it’ll be in an individual window for you and you can have your word doc open alongside.

Ourshoddyhouse · 12/09/2023 21:22

I can't help, but wanted to wish you good luck for tomorrow 🍀

OnAFrolicOfMyOwn · 12/09/2023 21:25

'Share window' rather than 'share screen' means they will only see your chosen window no matter what else you have up in the background.

But I agree the present live option a pp mentioned is the best one.

Oh my gosh, thank you so much lovely. Much appreciated it, because it seems I was going to have to copy and paste my notes too haha , I don’t mind it seems easier presenting with the notes alongside too but thank you so at least I know this can be done haha

Hey everyone, thanks so much for all your replies and trying to help, honestly.

I think I’ve sorted it! And yes will transfer my notes to the presentation itself and use “presenter view” so I can see my notes alongside the slide as I present it.

I don’t feel fully prepared (that’s just because I’m hard on myself, despite doing the work and the presentation basically being ready to go hah) as it’s a presentation and a range of Qs and so much involved!

but I’ll give it my best. Thank you all lovelies x

Best of luck with it tomo op;

what I have done is shared screen with the presentation and had my work notes over my teams screen - so I can’t really see yet people if that makes sense; it works fine tho

good luck! You’ll be great!

ChloeR81 · 12/09/2023 21:53

Best of luck for tomorrow!

PinkGiraffe1 · 12/09/2023 22:09

coxesorangepippin · 12/09/2023 22:26

Good luck!!

user76541055773 · 12/09/2023 22:34

Good luck 🍀

Mangofandangoo · 13/09/2023 06:27

Split the screen in 2 and then only share the document you want them to see, can't remember what it's called but it's the box on the left after you've pressed share

user76541055773 · 14/09/2023 21:03

How did it go @Headmassage ?
