To end my love affair with Ariel?

I always used Ariel wash powder. Smells good, (well at least it used to) obviously cleans well, kind to skin (mild eczema) etc etc.
£9 a box, then £10, then £11 now some revamped easy dissolve stuff at £13.50 for less washes ?? Taking the absolute piss !

So I finally did it. I admit I dallied with Aldi own brand in covid when I only used one shop for everything. Convinced myself it wasn’t as good as Ariel.

£3.95 for 40 washes. Just under 10p a wash compared to nearly 21p a wash with Ariel. Got the lavender and jasmine stuff. Well, it smells great! Cleans brilliantly and no itchy skin.

Anyone else took the plunge?

Been using Aldi for ages. Brand stuff is style over substance.

FrenchBoule · 12/09/2023 20:32

Used supermarket own brand for years.Nothing wrong with it.

Got stocked up with Ariel washing liquid in spring when they were changing their product 53 washes for just over £2.

Whatever works for you. I buy whatever’s most economical

senua · 12/09/2023 20:33

Oh, I was thinking of switching to Ariel. My Persil says that it is "tough on stains" but it doesn't get all the grease spots out. And doesn't dissolve on the 'delicates' wash.
I have used Aldi in the past, when they had the Good Housekeeping seal of approval. I may go back there.

dementedpixie · 12/09/2023 20:36

I use whatever is on offer and have used own brands too. Just finished using morrisons bio powder. Have now bought Daz cherry blossom flavour

Jbrown76 · 12/09/2023 20:39

This stuff is great

I’m far too tight to buy branded washing powder, we use lidls own, the only time we didn’t was if they had huge boxes of surf on offer, they used to work out 4p cheaper per wash than lidls own.

Loop3x5 · 12/09/2023 20:43

I've always used Ariel as I'm allergic to some of the cheaper brands, and it's always cleaned well, yada, yada, yada...BUT a massive saving may tempt me to give this Aldi one a go

Cantstandpowerpoints · 12/09/2023 20:43

Seems you’re all way ahead of me! Fair play.

@senua
you’ve kind of proved my point there thankyou, Persil isn’t dissolving properly mysteriously all of a sudden. New revamped easy dissolve pack on its way three quid dearer?

SilkenPilken · 12/09/2023 20:46

I have never used branded washing powder. Total waste of money.

FuzzyPuffling · 12/09/2023 20:48

I use Lidl washing powder, far less than recommended, and no fabric conditioner. Everything is line dried all year round.

Bargain washing, and we are perfectly clean and fragrant!

I thought this thread was going to be about the mermaid and was going to advise you never

Being as it's not about the mermaid and I don't use Ariel I can't comment. Sorry to ruin your thread

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/09/2023 20:49

I used to use Aldi powder but it ruined a pair of black trousers so moved to Ariel cold wash liquid in lockdown when I couldn't get anything else and have stuck with it, I find it better tbh.

Smithy8001 · 12/09/2023 20:50

Did anyone else open this thinking it was going to be a Disney debate?

WelcomeEverythingIsFine · 12/09/2023 20:51

I thought you meant the little mermaid and I’m disappointed

Cantstandpowerpoints · 12/09/2023 20:52

Big sorry to the Disney fans !!

@FuzzyPuffling yes I ditched the fabric softener too

I used Ariel Colour for years but finally switched to Sainsburys own brand a few months ago when Ariel's prices just became ridiculous.

I did too 🤣

I use Ariel/Bold. I wash whites separately- really just towels, couple bras/pants.

Throwncrumbs · 12/09/2023 20:55

I use Persil non bio because that’s the one recommended by my allergy expert/consultant. Can’t understand all the Aldi/Lidl hype, both shops are so disorganised, the fresh stuff always looks off the day after buying and the meat looks fatty, I much prefer Waitrose!

FuzzyPuffling · 12/09/2023 21:03

Fabric softener= more chemicals everywhere.

HighywayToHell · 12/09/2023 21:04

I have always used Surf, cheap enough and was good. Have tried Asdas own brand, seems ok.

dannyufcfan · 12/09/2023 21:05

Thought this was going to be about the mermaid.

Willmafrockfit · 12/09/2023 21:05

i always use shop's own, occasionally i use fairy for the fragrance, if on special offer

DietHelp · 12/09/2023 21:08

The irony of the adverts on this thread!😂

I’ve often thought of changing from Bold but I’ve never found anything that doesn’t irritate DH and DD’s skin.

SabbatWheel · 12/09/2023 21:09

Ariel makes me itch. Generally use Eco Egg which last for ages. Washing is clean without being loaded with scent.

Iris1976 · 12/09/2023 21:10

Been using Asda biological with jasmine and moonflower I think it was, excellent value for money but doesn't remove grease stains, tried smol trial recently and impressed but obviously nowhere near as cheap normally, but don't need to use fabric softener.
