Help! Weird lump on my breast?

Hi!

I’ve had a problem for a few months and have never heard of this before so really wasn’t sure but hoping someone on here knows.

ive got a lump on the side of my nipple (I think it’s called the areola?) - it’s not a deep lump it’s like a lump on the surface. It looks like a 2nd nipple although it’s much smaller than a nipple and probably 5mm if I had to guess the size.

obviously if I had a deep lump I would go straight to my GP because that’s suspicious but it’s not it’s just on the surface but it’s not going away either. The reason I said it looks like a 2nd nipple is because it’s got the same dotted appearance and it looks like a smaller version of it.

I’ve never had sex so it’s not an std. I’m in my early 20s and none of my friends have ever had this so they had no idea what it is when I mentioned it. I went to a pharmacy and asked if I could get something to take it away and they said just to leave it and it’s probably fine.

it’s not embarrassing because I don’t have a boyfriend so nobody is seeing it but I’m aware of it and it’s not going away and I don’t want to always have this. Would I be UR to go to the GP for this? Or would it be pointless going because it’s purely aesthetic and it’s not like a suspicious deep lump inside the breast?

thanks in advance for any help x

100% see a gp, not because am worried about what you described but because they very much push for patients to mention symptoms
They won't mind at all

Go to the GP, even just for peace of mind. You’ll drive yourself crazy trying to find an answer, and a 10 minute visit can save you more worry.

All lumps should be checked always.
Advice I got from a Dr when I got a lump by the nipple checked.

Could it be a Montgomery’s tubercle, they’re glands on the areola that release fluid that keeps the nipple supple. They can get more prominent in pregnancy, puberty and at times during your cycle.

I have one of these on each side. When I hit puberty, I remember DM panicking I had extra nipples!

I'm 52 now, they're still there, are no bother and have never been commented on - either by partners or midwives. Apparently they are, as PPs have suggested, Montgomerys Tubercles.
