Life's so boring

Life's just working, going to the gym, occasionally seeing friends. Can't afford to go on holiday and haven't in 4 years. It's so just so dull.

Agree. Just the same old working all the time, then housework and dog walking ( although the dog walking is enjoyable) interspersed with the occasional social event. maybe we expect too much from life and think it just should be all excitement. I think social media doesn't help, constantly bombarded with images of others doing exciting things, constant holidays, meals out. I need to stay off it !

Well, the boredom is telling you to make changes. Life is actually full of more great things to do than there is possibly time to do. And I’m not a happy clappy life is great person. There are really awful things in my life that make it a massive struggle. I do not wake up delighted to embrace a new day. But even I can see how many interesting and good things there are to do in life. And they help me to cope with the utter shitness of the rest.

So go out and try new stuff, find your thing, meet new people.

Agreed, when I look back to what we used to do pre cost of living crisis, it’s so depressing.

Wakintoblueskies · 10/09/2023 16:32

I agree.

Only for my kids, I barely see the point in continuing to pension age. And then it hardly improves either!

NuffSaidSam · 10/09/2023 16:33

Stop going to the gym and use the time and money you save to do something more interesting. The gym is very dull.

electriclight · 10/09/2023 16:33

Surely life is what you make it.

If your job is what is boring you, change it.

If you want to do more interesting things in your spare time, start researching.

TheChosenTwo · 10/09/2023 16:35

Gym a bit less (I’m not saying don’t go, I really enjoy going myself!) and see friends a bit more?
I agree, if my life was just work, gym and occasional meeting up with friends I would be very bored.

I really try and make the most of things but I'm on a super tight budget. Can get me down sometimes. Since Col I've cut out manicures, eating out is very rare now as are nights out. Had to stop aerial sports as it's too expensive.

Do you have any friends locally? Or anyone you could see yourself getting friendlier with? I often just meet someone for a walk in the evening, not because it’s free but because it can be as flexible as we need it to be (like, running late - can we push it back half an hour? Or can’t be too long, we’ll do a shorter route) and it’s a nice reason to escape the house for a bit and have a chin wag. One of my favourite things to do.

It might not be your cup of tea but youth hostelling is fun and cheap? The hostels are now ensuite, have cafe bars and no-one makes you do chores!

LizardLizard · 10/09/2023 20:33

I don’t know where you live but I can strongly recommend getting out and about in the National Parks. I set myself a challenge to climb a number of local peaks (hills not mountains) and my ultimate aim is to the do the three peaks - maybe not the 24 hour one to begin with, but I’d fancy a bash at that. Best of all, apart from getting there, and maybe an initial spend on decent shoes, it’s free.

Comfortablechair · 10/09/2023 20:36

@Sunflowers76 i know it feels like that but can I give you another perspective. During covid I was desperately ill couldn’t get out of bed or even walk down my own stairs. I had a complete attitude turnaround - told myself that I’d be happy with even just going for a coffee. Through my recovery I was able to find joy in everyday little things - the sunshine, a nice long walk, holding hands, a nice meal, a funny YouTube video. Maybe find a side hustle get a little extra cash and just book something cheap like camping ? Life is way to short to get bored and be mopey. Find your little pockets of happiness.

Maybe you live in a dull area but where I live there are a million and one events and clubs to attend plus numerous outdoor activities, I could never be bored.

Your life is what you make it! Instead of gym why don't you try do a couple of different random (cheap!) sports or clubs? Open water swimming? Martial art? pub quizzes? Hiking? Dinner club with friends and cook different cuisines?
